Your engine number should be located about halfway down the side of your motor on the block not the head. Depending on your motor depends if you need to remove stuff to find it. Sometimes they are hidden behind things like plastic covers there for style but a pain if you need to do something.

Can i drop 97 ford explorer xlt motor in a 2000 explorer sport

If the engine displacement is the same then it will work, although you will have to change "ALL" electronic components on the engines from the 2000 engine to the 1997 engine as these components will be different. If you do not change them you will have several different problems. Most car manufacturers change their electronics year to year and sometimes even mid-year.

97 ford exporer timing issue

There are three engines used in a 97 model. The 4.0 single overhead cam V6 engine uses a timing chain in the front and in the rear, one for each cam. The left side is in the front and the right side is in the back. You would have to take the engine out to access the rear chain.
The 4.0 overhead valve engine and the V8 engine only have one chain in the front.

I have a 97 Ford Explorer AWD 8 cylinder. Check engine light comes on and I get code p303. Vehicle bucks at times, uses lots of gas. Believe it may be 02 censor, spark plugs and wires tested ok. Any Idea

code says #3 cylinder misfire, check the coil pack for this cylinder to see if its got spark, bad o2 sensor will spit another code, its most likely the coil

Have a 97 ford explorer sport 4.0 and am not getting spark. changed coil pack and still have nothing

More than likely you have a bad crank sensor or a bad EEC power relay (I think they still had those relays in '97 -- not sure though -- used to power up many of the engine control circuits)

Oxygen sensor for 1999 ford explorer

97 ane 97 have 4. I will assume that yours does too.

Go under Explorer.
Trace exhaust maniford from engine to catalytic converter.... in that path, you will find an O2 sensor (looks like a spark plug right in the exhaust pipe).

Same item on other side.

Now, sad part. You MAY find 2 more O2 sensors just after the converter!!

Autozone can usually do a free diagnostic on your vehicle and tell you which 1 or 2 sensors are bad.
