  1. Gap at or close to .50” if there is no misfire, hesitation, etc., and you want to get a trifle extra gas mileage. A safe middle ground may be .45” if there is misfiring at that gap. If you plan to modify your turbo engine, iridiums can be gapped down to .32” and other plugs can go down to .40-.45”. (Chrysler now specifies .40”)
  2. Remove the cover on the engine.
  3. Remove the five bolts connecting the top two halves of the intake manifold where the dipstick is (five 8mm socket).
  4. Remove the EGR tube (one 8mm socket, other is 13mm socket).
  5. Remove the air hose from the air box at the throttle body with a flat tip screw driver and one more 13mm bolt underneath the throttle body opening.
  6. Rotate the top intake manifold up, block it up with a board if you want to keep it out of the way, but be cautious, there is an extention tube on the EGR tube in the back of the top manifold so the manifold needs to come forward to prevent gasket damage(light blue in color, actually a flat one and another fitted O-ring with ridges, be careful. Several hard and soft vacuum hoses and wires/sensors, no problems gently moving them around.
  7. Twist, then pull the plug wire boots and use a deep 5/8 inch plug socket with three inch minimum extension and rubber gripper to pull the plugs (or long needle nose pliers to retract the old plugs after unscrewed).
  8. Use anti-seize on the threads, and if the plug wires are over three years old or 60,000 (maintenance interval?) miles old, replace the wires as they tend to get pinhole leaks to short against the tubes they sit in.
  9. Before reinstalling upper intake, wipe excess oil in the intake out with a rag, remove the four burnt umber rubber gaskets.
  10. Clean (I like Dawn dishwashing liquid, cuts the oil and grease really nicely), rinse and dry them and reinstall in reverse order of removal.

2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser Turbo. The alternator went bad, so I got a new one but when I hooked up the battery the black wire that plugs into the alternator started burning??

Question edited for clarity, add make, fix spelling 'alternator' 'convertible'.
Question moved to model category.

The alternator went bad, you didn't check why, the new one went bad when you installed it?

Mis-wired? New one faulty?

I blew the turbo on my 2005 pt cruiser limited ed. I replaced the entire turbo,and added new sparks...(only has 52k miles) Since then my car does not get over 65mph without feeling like its stalling...

What kind of spark plugs did you use??? Here is a list of plugs that you can use on your Turbo engine.

Champion
* Copper - stock # 440 - RE14MCC5 (OEM)
* Copper - stock # 470 - RE14MCC5 (supercedes/replaces # 440, but some catalogs same part #)
* Copper - RE16MC (supercedes/replaces RE14MCC5 and new Chrysler recommended gap is .040)

NGK
* Copper - LZTR4A-11 (supercedes/replaces RE14MCC5 and new * Chrysler recommended gap is .040)
* Copper - stock # 4306 - LZTR5A-13 (one range colder)

If you use the platinum spark plugs used on the Non-turbo engine, they will start to glow and cause misfires and can cause engine damage to saver detonations throughout the RPM cycle.

As for the over heating, you could have a blown head gasket from a severer detonation if you notice coolant and oil mixing in your engine and coolant tank. The less cause for over heating wold be a bad thermostat or a faulty radiator cooling fan, cooling fan relay or cooling fuse which is located in the engine compartment fuse box by the battery.

Good luck and thank you for using Fixya.

ECM CODE P2047 05 PT CRUZER 2.4 TURBO

This code p2047: P2047 Reductant Injector Circuit/Open
First thing to check are the plugs. If plugs are dirty, this would be the most common source of your problem. If the plugs are good, then it could be either a bad fuel injector or bad ground.
