My 1999 Dodge Durango cranks strongly but doesn't turn over. What could be the problem? I was told it could be the crankshaft sensor at worse.

Is there a check engine light on? The mechanic can check the trouble code to see what it is. It could be that your fuel pump stopped working, a bad fuse, did you check them, or your cars computer (brain) stopped working. Was there any problems before it went dead, symptoms?

No engine light on. All fluids full. Which fuses in the cab or engine?

  • david lasky Feb 03, 2011

I would check any fuse that is related to starting, running, controlling engine.

The fuel injestors have fuel in the lines. I will check the fues in the box under the hood and in the cab.

The day after our clod weather of -22 this happened. No sign of problems prior. This is wierd for this to happen. I was also thinking of frozen fuel lines?

  • david lasky Feb 03, 2011

I would check to see if your fuel pump is working. If the fuses all check out.

How do you check the fuses out that are shaped like a little box? There are several of the that are the same?

  • david lasky Feb 03, 2011

You really cant check those. The systems they control either work or dont thats the only way you would know.

Tips on replacing 1999 dodge durango crank sensor

The crankshaft position sensor is on the right side of the engine just to the rear of the right hand exhaust manifold, the sensor is attached to the block with two bolts, part of the sensor overhangs the transmission bell housing. Look at the bell housing and start going up, you will see the sensor almost inline with the right exhaust manifold. It has a gromment that overhangs the transmissions bell housing.
