1998 Honda Accord. Loud clunk when shifting from Park to Reverse. Noticeable when on a slope "driveway" and fairly quiet when the car is level. Does not slip gears and changes fast. The tranny is going is...

This is kind of normal. All of the weight of the car is resting on the parking lock. when parking on a slope first engage the parking brake then put car in park. This will take the load off of the parking lock in the tranny. when leaving put car in gear first then release the parking brake. I hope this helps.

2000 honda accord v6, auto. all the lights on the

The lights have nothing to do with your car not going in reverse. I know this is going to sound silly but, are you releasing the parking brake? That brake is the lever between the front seats. Are you taking your foot off the brake?

I know they sound silly but you would be surprised at how often this happens with th eparking brake.

When you put the car in reverse can you feel the transmission engaging? You should feel a slight **** when you put it in reverse with your foot on the brake. If you are not feeling this, your transmission needs to be repaired.

Pulled in parking lot put in park tuned off and took out the key let off the brake and it rolled back like it was in neutral put key back in to start it and the gear display on dash showed it in reverse...

Your description sounds like you THOUGHT that you had park, I suggest that you closely inspect and re adjust the shifter fo be certain that park= park, exactly. A little off one way or the other is not acceptable...

You can often feel the detents of the trans, is your shifter and indicator centered in the gear position?

Car stops moving in reverse gear

Sounds like the car is just slipping out of gear. Keep your hand on the shifter when you back up next time. See if you can feel the shifter move when the car comes out of gear. If the shifter moves up when it happens keep pressure on the shifter holding it back like you dont want it to move forward. And of course if the shifter moves back when it comes out of gear, put forward pressure on the shifter so it doesnt slip out. This might work for now but but i know i wouldnt want to spen 700 for that ****. Let me know how it goes.

no the gears cant be adjusted like that but you could have a problem with the linkage going to the transmision. sounds like you need to inspect for loseand or worn parts.
