Cupping of tires and a lot of noise from the rearend it sound like it is in the tires and feels. replaced tires threetimes had berrings checked and front end allinment and replaced struts and shocks all around we really didn't start noticing the problem intill 93000, miles and we can't solve mystrey

Do you have aftermarket rims? If the rims rub against an outer tie rod, it will destroy tires. Any kind of suspension modification can cause this also.

The noise you are hearing could be the serpentine (SP) belt & tensioner...
I had the same problem and had to have them changes and the noise is no longer there!!!

SOURCE: strus or shocks in the front end of the magnum?

According to the replacement parts guide, they are struts and I checked for all wheel drive and 2 wheel drive and all are showing struts.

The bumps do initiate the shaking. When my 2006 Ram 2500 4x4 started shaking, I had just had it aligned that morning. A month or so before that alignment, my passenger side outer tie-rod broke while driving down a rock road. I replaced it with a heavy duty MOOG tie-rod end. Anyway, the same day I had it aligned I was driving back home from a job and towing my bobcat behind me. I hit a bump and the truck did the "death wobble" with the front end shaking violently up and down in an alternating fashion (one tire in the air while one tire on the ground and then vice-versa). I changed the tires first (which were worn-out 305/75/17 mud tires). Since the day I bought the truck new in Jan. 2006, I've had larger tires on the truck than the tiny 235/75/17s that came with it and I've done a lot of heavy towing with it and never had a problem until this alignment was done at Sears. I;m still trying to figure out if it was the alignment specs that they used or if the problem coincidentally started that same day. I also changed the steering stabilizer. Neither the new tires nor the stabilizer/damper helped the problem. So I changed the other outer tie-rod end and the upper and lower ball joints (all MOOG with grease fittings). I turns out they were worn out. So, the truck no longer shakes violently up and down when I hit a bump. That problem seems to be in check. However, now when I hit a bump the truck's front end wobbles side-to-side. I can do a few things to recover from it. I can hit the brakes pretty hard and sudden (which can cause an accident on the interstate), or I can **** the steering wheel side-to-side a few times (from 10 o'clock to 2 o'clock) and that stops it immediately...until the next bump in the road. Also, if I let my foot off the accelerator just before hitting a bump and let the truck coast over it instead of power through it, sometimes the truck will ride over the bump without incident. I found out yesterday on a 5 1/2 hour road trip that if I did 80 to 90 miles per hour and powered through every road blemish, the truck rode fine...no shaking at all. I suppose the high speed forces the tires to stay straight when they hit a bump. Lastly, to confuse my problem solving attempts further, sometimes the truck rides like a cadillac (for an hour or so) at regular speeds and no matter what bumps I hit. Then without worning, the front end will loosen up and get that sloppy feeling again and the wobbling comes back at every bump...until the next time it feels like tightening up and driving right again. I have no idea what to do now. I'm going back to Sears today to have them check their alignment. Other than that, all I can think of is to change the rest of the steering components and check the steering box for malfunction. I hope someone can help all of us Dodge owners out off of the road tested info that I've just provided. Dodge doesn't seem to care to address the problems with their trucks front ends, and we need a solution before people get hurt or die. I was almost run over by an 18-wheeler trying to figure out how to handle the shake. I can't afford to buy another truck. So I need to fix this one so I can keep working. If anybody has a concrete solution to these problems, please let us know. I've read 20 different opinions from mechanics on these blogs, but nobody has said yet that they fixed someone's truck with these problems and have since heard from that customer and everything is still working fine. Opinions are helpful sometimes, but they're also confusing when they're conflicting.

You can drive on those struts untill it has no sping, and even then it is just dangerous because of bad handling. If it is you struts, then your car should bounce up and down if you tap the brakes, because the gas seal is leaking.
Struts are very easy to replace. The only special tool is a spring compressor, but it is easy to use, and you may be able to borrow one at an auto parts store like the AutoZone. Just a couple bolts at the top and bottom, and it comes right out. They cost less than $100.
If it doesn't bounce...it could be your half-shaft. Does it click when you make a turn backing up?

It is likely both your track bar and the lack of a steering gear box stabilizer. The bushings on your stock track bar can be replaced with polyeurethane or metal bushings which will help curb the problem.
The steering stabilizer attaches to your steering gear box and your frame allowing the steering to be more stable. I have put both on my truck and it drives like a caddy now as a result. If I had to choose between the two items, my money would go to the steering stabilizer first. I believe I bought mine here:

What kind of oil is needed in the rearend


If it did not have oil it would make the noise going straight. Check your brakes and the wheel bearings for play. Oil should be a GL5 70-90 wt gear oil.

Check your wheel berrings by jacking up the frount of the car up until the wheels are off of the ground and then see if the tire wiggles around if it does the berring is shot if the tire is solid then the berring should be fine

Mitsubishi Endeavor 2004 making roaring noise in rear


It just may be the tires. Tire cupping will make a roaring noise. You can check for this with your palm. Run you hand over the tread of the tire while parked. Look and feel for cups or scalloped dips appearing around the edge of the tread on one side or the other.

High pitched noise coming from front of engine only at high speeds. When at low speed, it mainly sound like a higher pitched tire noise. Any suggestions would be helpful


check the altenator berrings, also check condition of air pump it may be going out,don;t forget the water pump berrings

I replaced the front hub bearings and struts and I still feel like there is still a bearing problem


Have you look at the rear bearings and also are the tires cupped, cupped tires will give you a bearing type noise and feel, also make sure the rear bearings are good, the hard part is to locate a bad bearing thats not to bad, the only way is to listen for the noise or wheel is loose, you can remove them and try to spin it by hand and see if it spins smoothly but anyway look at tires and try to check the rear,let me know why you think you still have a bearing problem, are you feeling or hearing something. good day.

You probably have a bad tire or wheel bearing. Either the tire is cupped causing humming noise or grease inside sealed wheel bearing is burnt up. I would take front tire and move to the back of the car. Then drive again. If noise stays the same you probably have a bad wheel bearing. If noise moves to the back of the car than you may need to replace the tire. Most likely it is the wheel bearing, I replace them all the time at my shop

I just bought an2003 ford explorer 4x4 and i have a loud humming noise coming from the front end tires are brand new it has around 190,000km please help


If the noise is only when the vehicle is moving it sounds lek you have a bad wheel bearing. You can inspect ford move ment or play shaking the tires up and down and left to right while lifted up on hoist or jack. If there is no movement doesn't necesarily mean the bearings are okay, however if there is movement in bearing replace and drive again. Antoher way to determine Which wheel bearing is bad is to drive and turn to the left, if the noise gets louder than it mens the rightside wheel bearung is bad. If you turn to the right and noise gets louder replace driver side front wheel bearing. Also Rub your hands across your tires, does it feel wavy or uneven, you could have cupped tires, I DON'T KNOW HOW NEW THEY are but cupped tires will also make this noise. One way to see if it is the tires is to do a rotate If noise changes at all then you no its a tire causing noise. Hope this helps.

I need to know exactly how to go about replacing the wheel bearings in my '98 ram 1500 5.2L 2wheel drive...and if it is possible to replace the whole hub... thank you


You forgot to state front or rear, take off the tire remove the grease cap with plyers remove cotter pin remove nut, remove washer, wiggle the hub and outer berring will fall out. The inner berring may be pressed into the back of the hub. If so you will have to knock it out with a hammer. Getting it back in could be difficult. It can also be hammered back in. ( the new berrings must be repacked with grease by you) This is a process whereas you force grease into the berring. The install the hub install the outer berring put on washer tighten nut with plyers then back off 1/8 turn. install pin install cap install tire. after 50 miles of driving lift car and wiggle tire with hands to feel for any play in the berring....because this is your first time!

i want you to feel all 4 tires, feel for lots of flat spots. feel all the way around them. they might have flat spots on them. this will cause this noise. you neer to rotate your tires at 3,000 miles front to back. this will stop them from cupping out. thats what the tire store calls it. have your tires checked for balance when you rotate them. your tire with flat spots will make a good spare tire. switch the bad one to your spare to see if the noise gets changes
