Question about 1999 Jaguar XK8
If you disconnect the battery you must reprogram both windows by holding the button down until you hear it chime takes about 5 or so seconds. Repeat for the other window and this should solve the problem. This information should be in your owners manual, it is in mine

Your problem is that the window has lost it's memory. Solve it by lowering the window fully, keeping the switch pressed until you hear a faint click, or about 5 seconds. Now raise the window, again keeping the switch pressed until the click, or a bout 5 seconds.
