1997 XK8 - both windows inch down every time you open the doors and will not close on their own. The problem started after I disconnected the battery for cleaning. Is this a simple fix?

If you disconnect the battery you must reprogram both windows by holding the button down until you hear it chime takes about 5 or so seconds. Repeat for the other window and this should solve the problem. This information should be in your owners manual, it is in mine

Your problem is that the window has lost it's memory. Solve it by lowering the window fully, keeping the switch pressed until you hear a faint click, or about 5 seconds. Now raise the window, again keeping the switch pressed until the click, or a bout 5 seconds.

Driver side door will not "catch" and close

open the door and look at the 2 jaws that go around the strike. then pull the door handle as if you were opening it from the outside and manually retract the jaws back to the open position. this is a common thing that happens. after that it should be ok. lube it with wd40 afterwards.

Window returns to high position, preventing door closing properly

I have a 02 Carrera and had the problem of the window remaining too high and preventing closing. i took the car to the dealer and they did something with the door handle mechanism, like unscrewing it and putting it back in place, which fixed the problem, no charge i think. i also had a bad starter switch and light switch on the front panel. when these were changed, my car now starts well and all lights work in the instrument cluster, which was a problem before.

Jaguar XK8 Window Problem

Same thing has happened on mine!
The solution is to reprogram the window limits. You need to sit in the car with doors shut! Turn the key in ignition in position I or II, roll down the window all the way and keep holding the switch for 5 seconds, then roll the window up and again keep the switch pressed for 5 seconds, repeat same steps for other door.
Reprogramming is also described in the owners manual. I don't know how mine became deprogrammed, should only happen if the battery is disconnected!
