When to you when the cam is bad?

If it is out of time too much between the cam and crank, you stand a good chance of bending valves. A stuck lifter can cause a push rod to bend which will produce a noise and a cylinder to not work. Engine won't idle or rev up well when this happens.

How do i set timing chain on sprockets ,ie top dead centre.

I don't know what car you have, so here's what was needed on mine:
1. Bring engine to Top Dead Center, ready to fire #1. There should be a mark on the front pulley or on the flywheel. Move cams to the TDC mark, too. My car was twin cam, the front cams needed to face apart, and set the marks....

Yours may be different.

How to change timing chain

make sure the engine is at TDC on compression stroke, remove all the parts to get to the timing gears, remove the bolts that fasten the cam gear to the camshaft, the crankshaft gear should just slide off but make sure you dont loose the keyway in the sump as this will cause a delay in the repair.
dont turn the engine at all when you are doing this as it will put your timing out, take the camgear off the shaft with the timing chain, you will be able to remove the timing chain now. when you replace the timing chain you need to put the chain onto the camgear and then onto the crankgear, there should be an arrow on each gear which has to line up without turning the engine, unless the crankgear has been moved you will only need to move the camgear on the chain (not the actual cam) until the arrows line up and it lines up with the retaining bolt holes for the camgear.
hope this helps you with your repairs.

Timming chain problems

I don't know what "timming" or "minic" means, but (from context) I'm assuming you think that you are having some kind of a a TIMING chain problem.
The timing chain simply goes around the crank shaft sprocket and around the cam gear, turning the cam shaft. If it is in place, your vehicle will run. If it breaks, the vehicle will not run. If it is loose, your vehicle may run rough, but there will be an obvious rattling noise coming out of the timing chain cover at the front of the engine, as it moves the tensioner aroundr.
That's about it for a timing chain. There is nothing else to it.
Hope that answers your question!
Now if you have an actual SYMPTOM you'd like diagnosed, try again.... and use spell check :)

double check all youre timing marks . loosten tentioner and adjust cam.then tighten chain .manually turn motor over twice then check timing marks again this is a little tricky sometimes because when you tighten the tentioner the cam will move. you have to have the chain in a spot to compensate for this movement.

what you have to do is clean the chain very well you are looking for 2 links that are different colors than the rest (bronze colored ) count the links between the two rotate the cam 2 12:00 with the dowel pin up or the dot on the edge of the pulley put the chain on with the links on each mark and set the tensioners in place

How do i check to see if the timing chain is broken?

If the chain is broken the cam or cams won't move, so the valves won't either. The engine would crank like the spark plugs are out - no compression.

if he just turned the cams over by hand then i doubt that he damaged anything as if a valve was open when the piston came to top dead center then it would have stopped moving.the noise isn`t uncommon because the valves springs will make some noise as they are compressed and the rockers will make some noise as they move against the cam lobe and and the valves will make some noise as the valve spring forces the valve shut.if when you aligned the cam marks and they didn`t hit the pistons and stopped you from moving the cams and all timing marks are aligned then you should be okay to start the motor.

google Dodge 2.7 timing chain............select images........... the 2nd and 3rd images that come up are drawings of the timing chain assembly. Hit either one of these , and you will get full instructions for doing the job. Note ... by my eye it does not look like the timing marks on the cam pullys are exactly at the top. Slightly off to one side.

Changing a head gasket on a 1984 rodeo 2000 g200 kb28 with a sohc. How do i take off the timing chain?

there is a special tool. it holds the chain against the hydraulic tensioner and on the cam sprocket. you need this to prevent tensioner from loosing its prime and keep the timing from moving. once tool is in place remove bolt holding cam sprocket and you lift head off leaving chain and sprocket in place.
