87 toyota camry-hesitation

Please help with my puzzle! I have a 87 toyota camry that hesitates to take off regardless of pressing the gas, vibrates a minute then catches and goes. It mostly does this when taking off in first gear but I have had it try to do that going down the road. Does anyone have an idea what I may need to be checking.

I have the same problem. I took it to my mechanic, who I do trust. She is not out to get me. My mechanic told me it was the distributor cap leaking and I needed to replace the the whole distributor.

I have an auntomatic 87 camry that just had that problem. I thought it was my fuel pump but it ended up being my ignition coil. It cost a lill over 400 to fix, but I think I got a little screwed. The part is actually only a lill over one hundred dollars. Hope this helps!

This could be a fault with the shift valve, hopefully just requiring cleaning. This is accessible with the trans pan removed, best done on a hoist.

Try putting a can of fuel injector cleaner cleaner in the gas tank. This will not fix it instantly but will improve as time goes by.
