My trunk will not open unless I use the key. Help.

  • Anonymous Mar 21, 2014

can't open the trunk using the key-less entry or the release button on the instrument panel. I must use the actual key. it's not the bypass switch in the glove compartment. When I take the car to dealer, they reset something and it works for a little while then it goes out again.

SOURCE: my trunk release is not working

Hello and thank you for using FixYa!

When you open up the truck, by the latch, there is a lever. Make sure this lever is up, or down. I forget. This lever is the valet switch so try it with both. Most of the cases the lever gets bumped when getting stuff in the trunk.

Thanks Jay!

Rear Compartment Lid Release
The rear compartment lid can be released by depressing the rear release button in the glove box or holding either front power door lock switch to the unlock position for a minimum of 2 seconds or by pressing the rear compartment release button on the key fob. The transmission must be in the PARK position for the rear compartment to release. No Key lock on the trunk ?

Whre is the trunk release button inside the 2002 nissan altima ???

if there is not a lever near the floor on the left hand side of the driver's seat, then check your glove box. Sometimes they put a button in the top right corner of the inside of the glove box. If it is not in either of those two places, check your center console (near the shifter), or in the small compartment in between the driver's and passenger's seats (if you have one). These are the normal places that you should be able to find a trunk release button ... if it is not in any of these places, you might not actually have a trunk release inside your car -- you might just have to use the key to open it.

Check the release solenoid for power, open the trunk and have someone press the remote release button, does it make a kind of clunk noise at the latch area? If not check the fuses and the power to the release solenoid in the trunk.
