My daughters Explorer has a jerky transmission. The car will run but shifting between gears is not smooth. It is an automatic transmission. Her visits to repair centers have come back with the response, you need a new transmission, however that seems a bit extreme.

Yeah that is how they work, but sometimes you just cant diagnose the problem without tearing it down and inspecting. I'd keep getting opinion and make sure you let them know that you dont want to hear their bs you want a fix solution not the easy rebuild answer. Or find a used trans and replace.

Mazda 3 won't shift into 4th gear, where is shift scene of located

Check your tyranny fluid is full, sounds like you may have blown a transmission band.... usually in an automatic transmission the car will go to what seems like neutral on the gear that is gone, usually preceded by a few months of hard jerky shifting. Not much to do if this is the case but to get a rebuild or new transmission, it will continue to get worse as you get higher mileage ( other gears will start to go) . These things happen over time. Sorry of that is the case.

My 2002 Buick Century is jerking when it shifts gears. It is a automatic. Why is it jetking when it shifts?

Jerky shifts with an automatic transmission is normally cause by the valvebody in your transmission sticking. You could try to change the transmission fluid and filter but I seriously doubt this will solve your problem. Please rate my answer.

Transmissioon

is this truck an automatic or is it a standard im thinking its probably an automatic so if you use the shifter to manually start off in 1 then drive bring up the revs and then shift it into 2nd bring up revs then shift into drive and see what happens does it go into gear or does it stay in first still ? is it 4 wheel drive ? what size motor is in it ? there is a shift relay under the hood in the relay box you could replace it and it may shift for you if this doesnt help replace the speed sensor located on the tailstock of the transmission does the speedometer work while in first gear ? does the truck have plenty of transmission oil ? does the engine run smooth ? these questions will help me diagnose the problem easier with out actually physically being there, good luck and get back to me asap i'll do some reaserch ok bye for now
