98'jeep cherokee sport

My jeep is turning over, but won't start. Also, some of my instruments are failing to read. I have checked the battery, alternator, and coil. Brand new cap, rotor, and plugs. Any advice would help. Not read to give up and send it to the shop. Thanks

I am trying to get a 1998 Cherokee classic 4.0 -6 clyn. started.

It has not been driven for 2 months.. battery was dead, so I replaced the battery and the engine cranks, but that is it. I took off the air hose and the throttlebody (butteryfly) was dry as a bone no gas. I cheked the fuse box , all seem fine.

is there some sort of starting sequence or some thing like that if ther wasn't power to the computer for a while?

Is there a primer sequence for the fuel pump?

I am just starting this process and have not worked on a jeep before (except a 55 Willys, way easier to work on).

I need advice as to where to look and what to try .

Hi, are you getting ignition to the spark plugs? How about fuel pressure? Try spraying a little starting fluid into your air cleaner as you are trying to start it.(do not spray a lot,it is not good for the engine). If it tries to start then the problem is in the fuel system.Good Luck!!!!

Have my steering column on 2001 Jeep Cherokee sport opened up to replace hazard/turn signal flasher block. Cant find its location. Have already changed out turn signal switch assembly.

On the switch you just replaced, trace the RED/WHT and VIO/TAN wires toward the front of your Sport and they will connect to the combination flasher. It has BLK and BLK/PNK wires connected to it.

When I start my 2004 Mercury Mountaineer the check engine light flashes the battery light comes on and won't turn off the oil gauge seems to be rising in the battery gauge seems to be going lower.

Probably, factory installed alternator has failed and vehivle is only using battery power.Suggestion:Start engine and check available voltage at battery with DVOM.SHOULD be 13.9 volts minimum and about 14.5 max.if not in range listed.please have alternator checked for failure.

How to fix 1999 jeep cherokee sport

You mean it cranks but does not start, right ?
The NoBus on the display means the cluster is not talking to the computer. That could be a wiring problem or a component problem.
Have you checked the engine computer for trouble codes ?

Won't start, battery good, starter good, swapped relays and still won't start

Any issues with the ignition switch itself? They are mostly made of plastic pieces. With the exception of the actual cylinder. Also depending on how long you had the battery issue,it may have damaged the alternator. They tend to go hand in hand, unless caught early enough. The alternator gets overworked due to the weak battery.

98 jeep cherokee sport flashing engine light

The check engine light is because all check engine light codes are caused by components that affect emissions. It's not actually an engine problem, it's a problem with either your O2 sensor, MAF sensor, fuel/air ratio, pyrometer, or exhaust.

Starter making whirring noise.

When you say it won't start you mean it won't crank, right ?

If you have a duralast starter from auto zone, that may be the problem.
Aftermarket brand starters and alternators can be lemons sometimes.
A mechanic would check for voltage at the starter with the key in the on and start positions. Also check the ground connections.
Its possible the starter is not getting full battery voltage for some reason.

04 jeep grand cherokee won't start just drags,

Could be a failing starter or problems with the cables.
A dead cell in the battery will do it too.

1988 jeep won't start

Not sure if I read your post right, but you have to have a hot wire to the ignition switch from the battery, independent of anything else on the car, before the switch will work.
The CPS is a common problem on the jeeps, though. If bad, you may not get a coil signal.
