Map sensor is showing on computer that its running too high....would replacing this fix it or could something else be causing it too run too high?

Map sensor failure on gm products is not uncommon replacement is straightfoward remember to disconnect battery to flush memory

1. yes a 1992 Honda accord has a map sensor and what accord do you have engine wise ?? because theres different codes 2. it could be a idle air control valve because if they get dirty they can cause the car to rev high low or even stall and cause the car to run crappy.

Idle problem integra


check the MAP sensor (manifold absolute pressure). The ECM (car computer) uses that to keep idle at minimum 750 RPM. It's normal for it to run high when cold. These small 4 banger motors typically run hot, and they won't run right IF they're NOT running hot, ergo the idle is usually high when it is cold so as to cause it to warm up quicker. If the RPM's drop below 750, suspect the MAP sensor, &/or ECM.

P0107 -- CONTINUOUS
Continuous diagnostic trouble code P0107 indicated barometric pressure out of range low was detected during normal operation.

Possible cause
- faulty internal BARO sensor (PCM)

Perform KOEO On-Demand Self Test.
Is P0107 present?
Yes, REPLACE PCM. CLEAR DTC and RETEST.
No, P0107 is intermittent fault. CLEAR DTC. If DTC reappears, REPLACE PCM.

If you keep getting it, a new PCM is the only fix.

The Engine Control Module (ECM) has detected a performance fault with the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor

The Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor provides instantaneous manifold pressure information to the engine's Engine Control Module (ECM). The data is used to calculate air density and determine the engine's air mass flow rate, which in turn determines the required fuel metering for optimum combustion. A fuel-injected engine may alternately use a Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor to detect the intake airflow. A typical configuration employs one or the other, but seldom both. .

Symptoms of a P0108 DTC code may include:
MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) will likely be on
Engine may run poorly
Engine may not run at all
Fuel mileage may decrease
Presence of black smoke at exhaust


Potential causes of a P0108 code:
Bad MAP sensor
Leak in vacuum supply line to MAP sensor
Engine vacuum leak
Short on signal wire to PCM
Short on reference voltage wire from PCM
Open in ground circuit to MAP
Worn engine causing low vacuum

Possible Solutions: A good way to diagnose if the MAP sensor is to blame would be to compare the KOEO (key on engine off) MAP sensor reading on a scan tool with the Barometric pressure reading. They should be the same because they both measure atmospheric pressure.

If the MAP reading is greater than 0.5 volt off of the BARO reading, then replacing the MAP sensor would likely fix the problem. Otherwise, start the engine and observe the MAP reading at idle. It should normally be about 1.5 volts (varies according to altitude).

a. If it is, the problem is likely intermittent. Check all the vacuum hoses for damage and replace as necessary. You can also try wiggle testing the harness and connector to reproduce the problem.
b. If the scan tool MAP reading is more than 4.5 volts, check the actual engine vacuum reading with the engine running. If it is less than 15 or 16 in. Hg, then the PCM is probably not seeing enough vacuum (due to a worn engine, perhaps) for a given operating condition (which causes a higher than normal voltage signal to the PCM) and setting the code. Repair the engine vacuum problem and retest.
c. But, if the actual engine vacuum reading is 16 in. Hg or more, then unplug the MAP sensor. The scan tool MAP reading should indicate that there is no voltage present. Check that the ground from the PCM is intact and also that the MAP sensor connector and terminals are tight. If the connection is good, then replace the map sensor.
d. However if, with KOEO, & the MAP sensor unplugged, the scan tool shows a voltage reading, then there may be a short in the harness to the MAP sensor. Turn the ignition off. At the PCM unplug connector and remove the MAP signal wire from the connector. Re-attach the PCM connector and see if with KOEO, the scan tool MAP reading shows voltage. If it still does, replace the PCM. If not, check for voltage on the signal wire you just removed from the PCM. If there is voltage on the signal wire, find the short in the harness and repair.

P0108 - MAP Manifold Absolute Pressure/Barometric Pressure Circuit High Input

The MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor measures engine manifold negative air pressure. It's usually a three wire sensor: a ground wire, a 5 volt reference wire from the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) to the MAP sensor, and a signal wire that informs the PCM of the MAP sensor voltage reading as it changes. The higher the engine vacuum, the lower the voltage reading. The voltage should range between about 1 volt (at idle) to about 5 volts (WOT wide open throttle).

If the PCM sees the voltage reading from the MAP sensor is greater than 5 Volts, or if the voltage reading is higher than what the PCM considers normal under certain circumstances, a P0108 DTC will set.


Symptoms of a P0108 DTC code may include:

the code is map sensor too high, too long. certain programmers with boost foolers can cause this. if running a programmer disconnect and if problem isnt fixed replace the map sensor.

I have a 2002 Dodge Intrepid - My engine light keeps coming on and the computer says it is PO108 - Can you tell me what the approximate cost would be to fix this problem?


P0108 = MAP sensor circuit high voltage

The MAP sensor communicates the barometric pressure inside the intake manifold to the ecm.

This code can indicate either a fault in the MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor, or a possible vacuum leak, either from a hose or the intake gasket.

I would NOT drive your car until this is fixed, especially if its running bad. Erroneous information from the sensor can cause bad mileage, misfires, rich or lean running, which can cause catalytic converter or valve damage if left untreated.

they are easy to replace, a new one should run less than $125, and they are fairly easy to find used in the local junkyard.

91 chevy 4.3 v-6 runs extremely rich when engine is cold gives codes 13, 33 and 54 I know what these codes are but I need to know is could the computer coolant temp sensor or the air cleaner temp sensor...


DTC - 13 Oxygen sensor circuit open or no activity
DTC - 33 MAP sensor circuit error (signal high indicating low vacuum)
DTC - 54 Fuel pump circuit low voltage

Start with checking the wire leads to the O2 sensors and MAP sensor. Look for any damages to the wire harness and replace any parts damaged or faulty.

The O2 and MAP sensor take reading and sends it to the ECM to recalibrate the fuel injector pulse to adjust the amount of fuel entering the cylinders. When there is an issue to the O2 sensor or MAP sensor and even both, the ECM will be set a a factory default to run rich to keep the engine running and at times the engine may not even run. Normal fuel to air ratio is 14.7:1 - 14.7 air to 1 parts fuel and at default it could be as high as 12.5:1. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to help you get your truck running 100% again soon and please rate. replacing the thermostat and temperature sensor would also be a good thing since the 4.3 runs best at 190".

P0108: MAP sensor circuit high input
P0172: System too rich (bank 1)
Possible repair for '108', replace the Map sensor. Clear codes and run car. If ok, the MAP sensor may have caused the '172' error. Hope this helps.
