Front end of 1996 dodge caravan shakes at high speed and engine light comes on

To reset you just disconnect the battery for an hour or two, HOWEVER if you do that you have to reset the security system and engine immobilizer.

Second HOWEVER, your issue will be nothing to do with the ECM or TCM. Vibration is caused by unbalanced reciprocal motion or something loose and moving when it shouldn't.

Check tyre pressures.
Are you Lead Wheel weights in place.
Jack the car up, spin the wheel. Does it run straight and true, or is the wheel oval? Does the tyre have bulges in the tread or on the inner or outer sidewalls?

Spin the wheel again. Does it run smoothly and quietly or are the wheel bearings rough, crunchy and loose?

Grasp the top and bottom of the wheel, push the top and pull the bottom. Is there any play? Do the same front and back of the wheel. Any play there?

Now get underneath, and check Steering Tie Rod ends, top and bottom ball joints for play and wear.

Check the transmission CV Joints for play.

Your vibration problem is in the list above. Outside chance it is engine or transmission mounts

have the front end suspension checked by an accredited front end specialist shop for the shakes at high speed under brakes There may be a problem with the brake pads and disc rotors as well

check your ball joints and tie rod ends.

Which sensor do you mean?

There is a wheel speed sensor ( mounted near the front wheels )

There is an engine speed sensor ( called a tachometer )

And there are vehicle speed sensors ( which tell the auto tranny how fast the car is moving in order to adjust shift points ).

take your battery in and have it checked, some of those older caravans need to have at least 13.1 volts in the battery at all times in order to keep running!!!

is engine light on?may have a faulty input or output speed sensor or solenoid pack..should have trouble codes..if it's 3 speed trans,possible internal problem..need to know if it's 4speed or 3 speed trans

we had the same problem in a Grand Am...but it was more like a shaking feeling...it was a strut that had snapped in half and it completely buggered up the front end (motor mounts were destroyed) so get it checked out

Many things can cause it But A Bad IAC Motor (idle air control motor) can cause stalling and shaking to a point when you stop if its not providing the proper air mixture .

Only at high speeds or all the time? It could mean you need an alignment, new busings in the front suspension, wheel balance, etc. 
Any more specifics on the shaking?

I've had several of these vans with this problem, check the transaxle for low fluid. Each of mine would start shaking when the fluid was low.
