You have 2 Red wires going to the starter relay, one from the positive side of the battery and the other from the starter. There is 1 wire from the starter relay to the neutral safety switch, which is Red / Lt. Blue, and 2 wires coming from the neutral safety switch, one that is Red / Lt. Blue that goes to the ignition switch, and the other which is Gray / Yellow that goes to the #30 connector in the Engine Control Module, and that is for automatic transmissions only.

How is the nuetral safety switch on a Hyundia Santa fe 06? I believe if I'm facing the car its accessible on the left side. I removed the skid plate but can't locate it.

First we need to make sure that its the neutral safety switch how did you come about that conclusion? Try this next time it will not start shift the gear into neutral and try to start it again if it starts every time you shift to neutral I would say yes start with your neutral safety switch. Your neutral safety switch is incorporated with your transmission range sensor located on the transmission follow the transmission linkage to the transmission there you should find the neutral safety switch usually black in color made of plastic with a wire harness connected to it you could get someone to shift it for you while you look to make sure you are looking at the right part.

Trouble starting, will not turn over all the time. replaced starter and still having that problem, also has new battery. so now what is next?

Make sure the connection at the starter is good, ( the small wire). if connections are good even battery connections at battery then i would check out the neutral safty switch, next time it doesnt start try to put in neutral and see if it starts, if it does then switch is bad, i would start with these tests,

Neutral safty switch

ok Let me walk you through this,,

  1. remove switch from transmission
  2. get a piece of wire and connect it to the positive battery terminal..
  3. touch each wire on the switch you will see and indicator light up on the dash ,, for example if you touch one,, you will see P light up, ,thats the park wire..,, so you will find wires P,R,N,D,1,2, thats the wire for the shifter..
  4. connect the last wire on the switch to the wire that light up N (neutral) and you should start..
simple as that..

Wiring layout for ef ford / trouble starting

this is hard to do, i dont have the year, model or engine. but i can give you a few things to check, the first most common is the cable going to starter, the connection at starter from this cable rots inside that terminal, it starts when ever it wants, next is the starter it self, when it doesnt start have someone hold the key in crank, while you test both wires at starter, this you condem or pass the starter, and the last would be the neutral saftey switch if theres no power to small wire on starter with key in crank then check the neutral safty switch. hope this helps,

Replaced battery and starter now it wont even engage selonoid

You need to check your voltage to the starter with a Volt Meter. Check the battery cable to the starter, that should be 12.5+ or higher. If not, you have a bad cable connection. Clean it with a wire brush and make sure it makes good contact both positive and negative. If good voltage check your start voltage. Usually a Spade Connection on the starter. Check it with the spade hooked up to the starter. If no voltage, put your car in Neutral and try it. May have a bad neutral safety switch. Hope this helps.

My 1996 cavalier Z24 wont start

pull a wire and ground it via useing a screw driver at the end of the spark plug boot to check for spark / if their is no spark / ignition control module / there is also a crank shaft position sensor / located on the back side of the motor under the coil packs / pain to get to / also the nuetral safty switch / to check the neutral safty switch diconnect the big harnest at the neutral safty switch put a fuse tester to the yellow wire / have someone turn the key / with the tester grounded the light should come on / now we know the ignition switch has power going through it. if there is a no power at the yellow wire / bad ignition switch / does the car have a relay located at the top of the radiator core support (up by the radiator looking down drivers side)if it does not gm will install one for free / if there is / look for the purple wire coming out of the relay and Follow it down to the starter / reconnect the neutral safty swtch / touch the small S (the smallest screw) terminal on the starter soilenoid / have someone turn the key forward check the light / this will detemine if the relay is good / CAREFULL NOT to touch the big starter wire with the little one it will jump the starter / I HAVE THE SAME CAR / Hope this helps
