Question about 1992 Buick LeSabre
I have a 1992 buick lesabre with a new problem. I tried to start the car on Thurs. all lights inside, radio, ac, instrument panel lit up. there was no sound from the engine. I adjusted the gear shift and retried to start the car. It started. On friday the car started first time and then it randomely did this again. only this time it would not restart. We adjusted the gearshift, tried starting in neutral, moving the car a bit, nothing worked until it was ready to start. what's wrong with my car?
Do you get a "security" light in the dash?

More than likely your ignition switch is bad. Its located towards the lower part of your streeging coluum inside the car. As you move the shifter in different positions the switch makes contact to the respective modes as indicated on your shift display. When you turn the key to start it makes contact to the starter. Since this is used the most it does burn the contacts much quicker than the others

The problem is the Neutral Safety Switch. I think it is located on the steering post, a thin arch shaped box about 3 x 2 x 3/8 inches with a few wires connected. That's the switch that lets you start in neutral or park, but not in gear. Not expensive. Replace it.

Could be a nuetral start safety switch on the tranny or gear slector switch on the column.

The ign lock cylinder has two tiny wires that may be going bad and not making connection. The fix is to replace the ign. lock cylinder and chip key. The starter will not turn over if they are not making contact and it may go into a shutdown mode for a few minutes due to the anti-thieft device.
