1992 buick lesabre ignition problems

I have a 1992 buick lesabre with a new problem. I tried to start the car on Thurs. all lights inside, radio, ac, instrument panel lit up. there was no sound from the engine. I adjusted the gear shift and retried to start the car. It started. On friday the car started first time and then it randomely did this again. only this time it would not restart. We adjusted the gearshift, tried starting in neutral, moving the car a bit, nothing worked until it was ready to start. what's wrong with my car?

More than likely your ignition switch is bad. Its located towards the lower part of your streeging coluum inside the car. As you move the shifter in different positions the switch makes contact to the respective modes as indicated on your shift display. When you turn the key to start it makes contact to the starter. Since this is used the most it does burn the contacts much quicker than the others

If the car won't start in neutral either, how can this be a neutral safety switch?

    • I have the same problem with my 1992 Le Sabre. When this problem occurs, I walk awy until it is cold, then it iwll start. If it will not start in neutral either, how can this be a neutral safety switch? Could it be the crank angle senor or the starter itself?

Problem solved!!! It was the starter solenoid, not the starter.

The problem is the Neutral Safety Switch. I think it is located on the steering post, a thin arch shaped box about 3 x 2 x 3/8 inches with a few wires connected. That's the switch that lets you start in neutral or park, but not in gear. Not expensive. Replace it.

SOURCE: have a 1992 buick lesabre with a new problem. I

The ign lock cylinder has two tiny wires that may be going bad and not making connection. The fix is to replace the ign. lock cylinder and chip key. The starter will not turn over if they are not making contact and it may go into a shutdown mode for a few minutes due to the anti-thieft device.

1992 Buick Lesabre dies in the middle of driving

Besides the ignition, the only other thing I can think of, is that a ground wire from the battery to the body, engine block to battery, or the dash harness ground came loose or undone. That's all I can come up with from your descriptions. Sorry I couldn't be of more help to you. I really hope that you get out with a cheap repair. Best wishes.

you should be seeing a steady security light ligt up on the dash what you need to do is below the dask or where the old ignition switch is you should see two grey or white wires you will need to find out what the restiance of the chip was that was in your car before, then go to radio shack and put the resistor between the two wires
