Saab 900 s

Son's car. when driving the car would shut down, little lurches than off. we changed fuel filter, car started, let idle then it shut off never to start again. with key in on position, checked codes and got; P1124; P0301, cylinder 1 misfire; P0335 crankshaft position sensor malfunction.

    I have the same problem. My care died twice while I was driving down the highway. I was able to restart the car in motion. I continued driving the car for several weeks without a problem, then one day it died and would not start again. I let the car sit for a couple of weeks and then magically it started right up. I drove it around the neighborhood and it never died. Don't trust the car now though, need to get it fixed. Any ideas?

Is your car with distributor or electrical egnition?
the fuel pump is not the at fualt.
in your son car are only two common problems or electricity does not come. Or fuel does not come good like is supose to come.

A throttle positioning sensor or idle sensor can cause these problems, low fuel pressure can cause these problems also low fuel pressure can be caused by a faulty fuel pressure regulator.

2 Weeks started to need to turn key twice to start. Today finally, it would try to kick-over, but would not. I tried push-starting (not sure if wise with a Saab 900 SE, or any Saab). That did not work. No...

sounds like a fuel related problem, possibly a fuel pmp, take a little starting fluid and spray it into the air intake and try to start it, if it fires up for a couple seconds then it is the fuel system...if it doesnt start that you have an electrical problem. Once you narrow it down into one of those two catragories, you will know where to look....the most common problem in fuel system is the fuel pump, others include, the fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, and the injectors, the most common eletrical issues are the plugs, wires, coil, distributor, and starter. Another good way to check a fuel pump is to have it nice and quite and to the key from off the the start position, not turn the van over, but just to start, you should hear a little humming noise from the rear of the vehical which is the pump kicking on, if you can acheive the quiet you need for this you can have someone turn the key back and forth while you listen at the filler tube or even crawl under to the tank.

best of luck, we are here if you need anything else.

My 98 Saab 900s started to sputter a few days ago. I put new spark plugs, dist. cap and rotor. The air intake is clear and the hose has no cracks. It still sputters in low rpm at idle and when driving it...

change your fuel filter and check the fuel pressure on the fuel pump you may have gotten some bad fuel try some STP gas treatment make sure you have a half tank of gas and add a little more go somewhere you can drive 55MPH give these websites a try www.alldatadiy.com and www.autozone.com wish you the best of luck Michigan Man.

My 98' saab 900 won't start. I changed the fuel pump, but it didn't fix the problem. It isn't getting fuel to the carborator. My niece was driving & she said she turned the corner and it died on her....

I would look at the Fuel Pump Relay, and Fuse Box, Fuse Box relays. Also if Relays Check out see if there is a Fuel Pump Intertia Switch and Where it is located..!!! R - U - sure its fuel ...??? maybe hit the intake with a little Either Starting Fluid see if it fires...I have found the Fuse Box Itself Will Arch and Burn Out Contacts so time for Fuse Box....Just Thinking hope this helps....Merry Christmas

DON'T KNOW THAT THE CAUSE IS BUT 900 RPM IS WAY TOO HIGH FOR A NORMAL IDLE SPEED.
WHILE IT IDLING HOSE THE ENGINE WITH A MIST OF WATER AND LISTEN FOR A CHANGE IN IDLE SPEED OR AN ELECTRICAL SHORTING SOUND.
SHORTING SOUND = PLUG WIRES
SPEED CHANGE = A VACUME LEAK.

Sputters then dies

Most likely a lack of fuel, check the fuel filter first.

Rough idle on 1990 saab 900 convertible, 16V

Because the car has adaptive technology, it may take a while to reset and adjust to the new, cleaner and better conditions than those to which it had previously adapted.

Did you change the cap and rotor? if the plugs needed replacement, likely they do too

Possible other causes include:

loose or corroded connections to any electrical component you disturbed (make a checklist and tick them all off as you check them);

mis-reinstallation of any F.I. part disturbed(checklist again)

obstructed water flow through the AIC valve;

improper voltage output from the AIC valve (for LH 2.4 systems, should output 8 volt at idle, dropping as load increases; for LH 2.4.2 system output 7 volt at idle etc; testing between terminals)33 and 17 at disconnected LH connector;

possible problem with MAF.

Hope this helps
