Left rear axel gasket leak

Bolts holding axel in place will not stay tight.Ihave used extre lock washers,Permatex Threadlocker red,Etc.Every thing short of welding!

How do I change the oil pan gasket?


Whether it's an engine oil pan (called the 'sump'' in the UK) or a transmission oil pan the principle is the same on all vehicles.
1. Drain the oil

2. Remove the bolts holding the sump/pan in place:

Use a blunt screwdriver -if needed - and prise the oil pan free. remove all traces of the old gasket from the mating surfaces.

Use a smear of sealant to hold the new gasket in the correct position on the pan - this will hold it in place when you refit the pan.

Push the pan into position and put in a front bolt finger-tight. Then put in a rear bolt finger-tight.

Putting in the bolts finger-tight allows you to gently 'move' the pan if needed to put the bolts in one at a time.

When all bolts are in, tighten them with a wrench/socket. Then check them all again for tightness.

It isn't actually a big job .. more 'messy' because of the oil.

How to replace a oil pan gasket 2003 mercury sable


1st. Can you remove the oil pan without partially removing the engine? If - YOU CAN'T - take it to a local ASE Professional. Concerns: 1 - rear main seal, will it be damaged when you remove the oil pan. 2. Front oil seal, pan seal, same concern? Lets assume you can remove the oil pan, ok, ... you MUST get the TWO gasket surfaces clean, smooth, I mean REAL CLEAN. SIT THE oil pan with the gasket surface up and flat, ..CLEAN THE GASKET SURFACES AND EVERY BOLT with QUICK EVAPORATING brake cleaner or acetone. Let then dry. Get some Permatex spray "red" gasket glue/sealer. Spray the pan side of the gasket with the red glue, carefully lay the gasket on the pan, use the bolts to locate the gasket, make sure the gasket is seated against the pan 100% around the edges!!!! Let the gasket dry overnight!! Then spray the face of the gasket with the red sealant before installing, do it while its still tacky. tighten all bolts finger tight, then start a criss cross pattern, start slowly tightening them (WITH A QUALITY TORQUE WRENCH) TO 50% OF RECOMMENDED.VALUE, keeping the criss cross pattern to 75%, then to 100 - 110% of FACTORY SPECIFICATION. This should stop all gasket caused leaks!!

Looking to buy a 1998 es350 Lexus. Minor oil leak some where in the front of car. Seems to be coming from under the header.


most leaks that are found by the header you most likely have a valve cover leak and that is common
they are easy to change just a few 7/16 bolts the best thing to do is when you get it off clean the
motor and valve cover very well from the old gasket the new gasket will come with two so you
might as well do both sides while you have the valve cover off paint it light blue this way you can
detect any leaks quick and use (PERMATEX BLUE) it works very well with oil and don't tighten
the bolts very tight a little more than hand tight will do

My 1999 Town n Country limited is dripping oil near front passanger tire.


more than likely you have a valve cover leak its common you will need to re move the cover
1 take out the bolts 6 i believe 7/16 socket remove the small bolts
2 pry the valve cover off
3 clean the old gaskets off the valve cover and motor
4 clean the valve cover and paint the valve cover light blue so you can see any leaks
that may happen // i dout if you will have any
5 put a small amount fo permatex (BLACK) it works well with oil and it will hold the gasket in place
once you put the gasket on the on the valve cover put a small amount on the bottom of the
gasget/// you will have permatex on both sides of the gasket
6 now you are ready to in stall tha valve cover back on the motor and put in all the bolts finger
tight once all the bolts are in you want to snug the bolts don't try to tighten the bolts to much
or you will cut the new gasket
7 now that every thing is back in check your oil level and run the engine for ten min this will set up
the new gasket and give the permatex a chance to cure

done deal

How can I change the transmision fluid in my 2005 chevy equinox?


Most transmission pans do not have a drain plug. To drain the transmission the velicle will have to be raised. I usually set a large drain pan-several quarts in size-under a rear corner of the transmission pan. I loosen about three bolts on the corner so the transmission fluid will drain. When drained, I remove the rest of the bolts-all 32 or more of them. With the pan off check the color of the fluid look for burnt looking fluid. See if the fluid smells burnt. If so you may have other transmission problems. Look for metal pieces in the transmission pan another indicator of other problems. Clean all the old gasket from the pan and transmission housing-be careful not to gouge either the pan or housing. I use my finger or thumbnail if possible. Gouging either of these places will cause leaks. If you're going to replace the screen do so now. Place the new pan gasket on the pan. Check with the manufacturer's specs before using any permatex or other silicones to hold the pan gasket. I always slide a bolt or two through the pan and gasket holes, lift the pan, and start the bolts. Go slow. Make sure each bolt is going through the gasket hole before tightening it to the transmission housing. Replace the bolts and tighten to a snug using a criss-cross pattern. Go back and forth across the pan tightening each bolt a few turns until all are tight. Don't overtighten the bolts. Doing so will damage the pan gasket, When all bolts are tight, refill the transmisson slowly checking for leaks. Fill the transmission to manufacturer's specifications.

Can see antifreeze leaking down over four wheel drive unit


this can be a couple of different things. firt open the hodd and then start the truck, Keep away from the fan make sure you are not wearing any loose clothing. The waterpump has a wheep hole on it when the berings are giveing out in the pump it will push water threw the weep hole where most of the time down the block onto the transfer case......Other wise look for water comming out of top and bottom raditior hose...If it is a pump this is how to fix it..

1)Drain the coolant.

2)Remove the shroud: 7 - 10mm bolts

3)Remove the fan and clutch: There is no need to separate the fan from the clutch. The whole thing threads on to the end of the water pump. Turning counterclockwise removes the fan, clockwise tightens it back on (from the point of view of standing at the front of the vehicle facing the engine compartment). I don't know the size, because rather than break out all my wrenches, I just grabbed an 18 inch crescent wrench. Place the wrench on the nut and tap loose with a hammer. The tapping will break it loose. You have to tap it, if you just try to loosen it, the belt won't hold it and the whole thing will turn. After it breaks loose just spin it off.

4)Break loose the bolts holding the pulley on: 4- 13 mm or 1/2" bolts. Just break them loose, don't remove them.

5) Remove the serpentine belt.

6) Remove the pulley: Finish removing the bolts holding the pulley and remove the pulley.

7) Disconnect the hoses.

8) Remove the old pump: 4-14 mm or 9/16" bolts.

9) Clean the surface: Remove all traces of the old gasket.

10) Install new pump: Apply a bead of blue Permatex around the holes on both sides of the gaskets, put them on the pump and insert the bolts through the holes to hold the gaskets in place. Carefully lower the pump in to position. Thread the bolts into the block and snug them. Then remove the bolts one at a time, add the permatex to the threads, and then reinsert. (only do one at a time so that the pump doesn't shift and disturb the mating surfaces) Then tighten all the bolts.

11) Reinstall everything in reverse.

There will be a lot of air trapped in the system, so after you fill it, get the engine to operating temperature, shut it off, let it cool, then add more. The air trapped in the system can cause your engine to over heat if left unattended.

Using a small 1/4" socket set and just your thumb and one finger with no leverage on the handle to tighten bolts. (kinda like chocking up on a bat if you know what I mean.) Starting in the middle go from one side to the opposite working your way to the corners. Use some "Permatex #2" to hold gasket in place and to help seal. Make sure not to over tighten bolts...it can actually cause it to leak.

How do you change a water pump?

I suggest filling the system with water only and run it like that for a day or two just to make sure there are no leaks. That way you don't waste your antifreeze if you have to do further repairs.

Leaking left rear wheel seal.


Loosen differential cover and let oil drain. Remove cover, remove E clip lock from axel. Pull axel out. Remove bearing seal. Install new seal and reinstall axel. Reinstall E clip lock and new cover gasket. Fill with 75-90wt gear oil. Now I know that sound pretty straight forward. But there are some things to remember. The E clip lock can be difficult to remove sometimes. The most important thing is the seal, you will need to make sure it gets seated correctly and not torn when installing axel
