Question about 2002 Hyundai Accent
I have a 2002 Accent 1.6 L engine. I washed engine down this morning and now is very hard to start, running real rough no power. I noticed the plastic guard at the bottom front of the engine compartment was melted. I think just below anfd in front of the C converter. Right now, I stalled about 1 mile from home hoping everything will dry out. Had to get my wife to pick me up, ya I heard about that. Any thoughts?
A similar problem occurred in our Jeep Cherokee a friend 'cleaned' with a heated pressure washer.
Gee, thanks; it took it 10 days to dry out so the transmission shifted normally again.
You have gotten water into some of the electronics or one of the miscellaneous sensors our cars now have.
The overheating of the convertor probably came from an overly rich gasoline/air mix that it had to process; if you had looked early, you might have seen the ****** glowing cherry red as they do when unburned gas enters the exhaust system.
The problem will likely go away in a few days; I'd leave it in the sun (if you have some) with the hood open.
It would dry out faster from the engine heat but they may not be an option right now and you would have to expect more angry response from the cat.
