Question about 1998 Isuzu Trooper

1 Answer

My 01 Trooper had problems with the TOD starting last winter. When the switch on the dash is engaged the TOD indicator flashes continually at 4hz but the check lite does not come on. I have vacuum at the actuator but no way to measure it. I locked the actuator in the 4wd position using a 10mm bolt as described in one of the 4wd forums. I have manual hubs installed also. My problem now is that the transfer case is apparently turning in the 2wd mode. The TOD indicator blinks no matter what 4wd mode it's in. 2wd indicator stays solid on rear wheels on the TOD display. Any ideas as to what the problem here is? I also have no 4wd even though the Hi switch is activated and the lever is in the 4Lo position.

My TOD light will flash o my 2002 Trooper and will not engage the 4WD. I also noticed that the winter mode is not working.I only have 53M and thought it was covered under my original warr.Trooper dealer said it's not part of the 10 year/100M warr  because it's not internally lubracated. What a bunch of ****. I was thinking of taking them to small claims.Has anyone done that? Besides buring a quart of gas every 600-800 miles it's been a good car.

We have a 1998 Trooper that had the same problem. The fix was an electronic switch for the 4WD - a vacuum sensor - on the front axle that just plugs in. You can see it - if you look under the car from the front, it's mounted in the middle of the front axle. It cost $175 from the dealer. We had somebody install it for $50. Don't know where you live, but they are exposed and can corrode. That's what happened to ours. Good luck - hope it's the same problem. This was an easy fix, and we were pleased.

What's your problem?01 isuzu trooper 3.0L 4 wheel drive was working but its not now.the green light is on solid when ignition is on but when started and dash button pushed in the green light flash

have also had same problem, green light flashing on my isuzu trooper 3.0
check to see if drive prop shaft is engaged firstly, first step for front wheels engaging, then 2 more solenoids are under engine front of jeep, one coloured blue one grey, these work with vacuum, if i remember blue for engaging drive grey for disengaging, inside solinoids small tiny piston, could be stuck as mine was, can be taken apart & cleaned, reason sticking is moist in vacuum system, & not being used as 4 wheel drive until winter months, hope this helps

On my 1999 Trooper TOD is flashing and the red Check light is flashing. We just had a large amount of snow and I used the 4 Low to get out. That is when this started..

I am not sure what the problem is, but I do know if the check engine light is red, and flashing it indicates that whatever the problem is it's DOING DAMAGE. I don't recommend starting this vehicle until the problem is solved.

4x4 light is flashing (TOD indicator)

this means there is a problem if it continuosly flashes
Short-circuit terminal 8 of the self-diagnostic
connector to GND to display the trouble code on the
CHECK lamp.
If no trouble codes exist, code “12” is displayed continuously.
If trouble codes exist, code “12” is displayed three times, and then other trouble codes, starting from the smaller code number, these are displayed three times respectively.

this is located behind right front centre console side trim..

99 trooper with TOD how do i know if it is on

Power drive delays the shift points for upshift of the automatic transmission. It will degrade fuel economy, but you'll get more peppy performance.

Winter drive will only engage if the vehicle speed is below a certain threshold (I think 23 miles per hour) - and only if the vehicle is in Reverse, Neutral, or Drive. It causes the automatic transmission to start off in 3rd gear (rather than 1st gear). The purpose is to provide power, but not torque to the tires. In winter driving, torque increases the probablility of the tires spinning. The vehicle will seem to be VERY sluggish when winter driving is engaged - which is completely normal behaviour. It will automatically disengage when vehicle speed increases above the threshold.

hi guys i would check all the small vacume pipes that conect the sol valves toi the vacume actuators having just replaced the engen in mine i found that these do not have any clips holiding them on tight and can get oil on them and become oversized and leak you can test the diaframes in the actuators by putting a length of pipe on one port and sucking by mouth you can hear the actuator move and then find you can put toung on end of pipe and it will hold a vacume if it does not then chances are the actuator diafram id u/s hope this helps bill
