    i have the same problem
i have a 86gt. i changed the oil yesterday replaced my left front head light. within a few hours after i realized my back brake lights were left on even though i shut off the lights. it ended up draining my whole battery. Today i removed the headlight that i replaced and noticed burn marks by the connections on the headlight. i reconnected the battery to realize the back brake lights were still on. something isn't grounded thats why there is a spark when i reconnect the battery.
what do you think it might be?

Right at the brake pedal there is a brake light switch that can stuck in the closed position keeping the brake lights on. One way to test it is by removing one of the wires to it, if the light shuts, must be replaced.

1994 Taurus seems to lurch backwards as I'm driving, as if its being pulled back. Wheel smells like hot metal after I stop. Bad brakes or something worse?

It appears that you have a dragging brake and knowing ford it is probably a stuck hand brake rod in the brake calipher.. Raise the vehicle from the ground and see which wheel you cannot turn freely. You may have to get a new calipher in you cannot free up the unit.

Parking brake light is stuck on after releasing the brake handle. Is there a tension adjustment for the cable somewhere that can be tightened up?

of course there is. but befor you go near that...check your brake fluid. when brake fluid is low, that will cause the parking brake light to stay on.

Brake lights

check the brake fluid level in the master cylinder. make sure its up to the MAX line. there is no reset for the brake light. either the fluid level is low or the level sensor in the master cylinder is faulty. you may want to take the car back to the person that performed the repair and have them make sure there are no leaks.

1991 Dodge 3500 D after using brakes hard the ABS light is on and brakes seem to take a while to release. Brake light on dash is on all the time.

Had the same problem in my Dodge Dakota recently. It seems that the hose from the white fill bottle on the brake system had become clogged and even though there appeared to be plenty of brake fluid in there, there was almost none in the master cylinder. Check the level in the master cylinder. Worked for me and the ABS light reset after a couple of days, likely would have reset sooner if i bled the brakes but I just let the bubbles work out on their own...bad idea but it was cold and rainy.

sounds like break hose is not letting fluid run back to resavor. have you done a break job lately and maybe kinked a line. break lines ar two way, fluid to caliber and returns to resavor thru same line. you also might have a caliber sticking.
