Our convertible top finally died. It had been working off & on for the past 3-4 months. If you unlatched the top and it didn't work immediately, if you would just shake it a few times hitting the sensors, it would work. Now it stopped completely. We had an appt with the only remaining Saab dealership/Service dept within 50 miles of us, and they never even looked at it after two days nor offered any apology!!! We would prefer to take it to another mechanic, but just want to have a clue as to whether it is just the sensors or could be a bigger problem.
A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

There are many possible causes of this problem on the convertible Sebrings, the most common problems are as follows;
1) The cargo platform in the trunk is in the wrong position which blocks the rear window from folding downward. Ensure that the cargo platform is in the down position before attempting to operate the top.
2) The Hydraulic pump is low on fluid, it is located in the trunk, in the left rear corner, underneath the carpet. Inspect the fluid level in the reservoir.
3) There is an electrical fault in the system.
4) There is physical damage to one of the panel pivots, inspect for panel binding while the top is moving.
A couple questions for you;
When the top stops moving can you still hear the pump running or does it go quiet?
When the top stops moving does the cluster display "convertible top in operation" or "convertible top malfunction" or something else?

Before taking this problem to the dealer, you might check this quick fix. I had the same problem on my 2007 Pontiac G6 Gt Convertible, and just resolved it.
First, you can access your trunk by disconnecting, and then reconnecting your negative battery terminal-this clears the safety code momentarily allowing the trunk to be opened using your trunk release button.
After you have the trunk open, check the wiring harness located in the top right corner of the trunk lid where the hinge is attached to the trunk lid. My wiring harness had come loose, allowing a wire to get stuck in the hinge, resulting in a cut wire-it was a red one. I spliced the wire back together, taped it up with electrical tape, and then secured the harness to the hinge assembly so wires couldn't come loose again. The problem resolved immediately with no further issues. Good luck.
I had the same problem with the window in my 2003 beetle convertible. I purchased 3m windo-weld super fast A10E2A and single step glass primer A13B5A also 3m. I ordered it online from Auto Body Toolmart. It was very easy to do and is in there really tight. Unlatch the top just enought to release the tension. 1. clean the window and remover any old glue with a razor blade 2. use acetone to make sure the rim around the glass is clean 3. apply thr gass primer and let dry 4. apply the glue which is black so put on a thin bead and I used gloves so I could make sure it was on both the window and also the fabric of the top. You must work fast because it sets up in 15 minutes. 5. Then take blue masking tape and secure the glass by taping all around the top. up and down and from side to side. 6. allow to dry for 6 to 12 hours. the clean off any extra glue with a razor. The total cost was $39 dollars instead of having to buy a new tp
1.Empty the trunk of all contents
2.Park on a level surface and set parking brake, shift auto trans into Park or manual into R
3.Turn the ignition off.
4.Open the trunk.
5.Pull down the convertible top latch located above the rearview mirror and turn it counterclockwise to unlatch . Leave the latch open and turned to prevent damage.
6.Pull rearward on the side edge of the convertible top and pull it off of
the windshield frame.
7.Push the convertible top down into the trunk
8.After the top is stored, push on the convertible top to ensure that the top is fully retracted and securely stored.
9.Close thet runk by pressing down from the rear center of it with a swift, firm motion.
I had the same problem for four years until I purchased a CD from Ebay titled "BMW E30 Convertible". I discovered, that I was opening the top up incorrectly. The top works fine. Unlatch the top from the windshield frame, then lift up the back half of the top, unlatch the top lid, rise it up and lower the top into the compartment, close and latch the soft top lid.
Hopes this helps.
