Temperature light Hi Dave, thanks for your advise re temperature gauge, with my limited knowledge I thought it looked like a radiator symbol so checked the water and it is still full so why would light be on? Or is it to do with something else and I'm being completely naive? thanks

according to may knowledge the temperature of the vehicle is maintain at the middle of the gauge because there are some sensor monitor the temperature and sending signal to the relay to run the blower fan in the radiator, please check the radiator fan and clean the radiator

Dear Dave,
As you said only it is showing the temperature in cluster but engine is normal, no overheating at engine, it means, the temperature sensor is sending wrong signal to control unit and it is showing the data which receiving from sensor, please replace "temperature sensor"your problem will solve after that, if any issue please let me know.thanks.

I don't know what the symbol means on my 1999 Pontiac Sunfire

does it look like a radiator? Low coolant sensor, may be in the overflow tank. Check your coolant levels when cold.

Car getting hot

I just fixed this on my wifes car! I thought it was coolant level at first or that the radiator needed to be flushed so i did both. BUT while flushing the radiator i noticied the cooling fans weren't kicking on and this was the problem all along. Its hard to get to but only cost between $15-$20 for a new temperature sensor. If your fans aren't kicking on to cool down the coolant in the radiator this is your problem.

it sounds like the thermosat to me have it changed and then put some Radflush through the system and leave it a week or to hen drain an refill the system cos whatever salt deposits from your area water caused the thermostat to jam, may be furring up your radiator and heating core

1996 engine coolant problem

you can open the radiator cap before starting your engine and let it worms up and you can see by looking in to the rad if you have circulation maybe you will have to rev engine just a little if the new thermostat work it will circulate godd and check to make sure fan does come on new sensors but fan may be the problem be cautious as it gets hot . and also make sure there is no air in the system with the cap off and little rev if air is present it should come out good luck
