Question about 1986 Nissan Maxima

1 Answer

Car cuts out at high rpms

We have an 86 maxima and the engine starts to cut out right before it gets to 2 thousand rpms. We thought it was the pressure regulator so we got a new one of those but it still has the same problem. To our knowledge the fuel pressure is where it should be and we think that the spark plugs and fuel injectors are working. So we have no idea why it can idle just fine but when it gets barely at 2 thousand rpms it starts to cut out. Thank you for your time and assistance.

On the 02 sebring when the cooling fan or i turn on the air the car idles(rpm) high then back down then stalls out if i dont hit the gas to steady the rpms

run the fault codes as the ecm should compensate for the extra load on the engine when the ac compressor cuts in
there will be a rpm drop of around 150 rpms when it cuts in then it should settle back to normal rpms and when the ac cuts out the rpms will go up and the settle back to normal
anything else indicates a sensor fault.

2003 KIA RIO CAR STARTS WHEN THE RPMS REV UP TO 4 TO 5 THOUSAND ENGINE CUTS OFF, IT'LL START AGAIN BUT DIE AT ABOUT 40 MPH

Begin by doing a readout of all stored codes in the ECU, and troubleshoot based on which sensors are out of tolerance.
Almost sounds like you may have a failing coil pack.

1991 nissan maxima the car will run fine and just cut out i also noticed the tachometer will sometimes go 4000 rpms while stepping on gas pedal but the engine is missing and bairly running also i noticed...

Are you sure what you found is the temperature sensor? It sounds like it could be a faulty camshaft position sensor. That would explain the erratic idle and rpm spike. Will aslo cause the engine to skip because of the irregular signal being sent back to the ecm.

Have 1999 cavilleir does it have a rpm protecter

Yes, the PCM for your vehicle's engine has a rev/speed limit seeting programmed into it. Most stock, non high performance/police package vehicles usually won't go above a top speed of 97MPH. if you were to rev your engine while it was in park or neutral, once the engine reaches the cut out rpm limit preset in the PCM, it will cause the engine to cut back, then it will rev up until it hits the preset limit, then cut back, and it keep repeating that pattern. It may sound as though you have a high rev ignition failure that sounds like waaa, waaa, waaa, waaa, but that indicates the PCM is doing its job.

Stalls when excellerating

i would do a few things here, simply spend $8 on some injector cleaner to break down carbon deposits, then try replacing the fuel filter, lastly, get the timing checked, plug gaps {new plugs} clean oxygen sensor in exhaust then lastly get the fuel pump pressure checked at a mechanics, all in that order untill it works, Good luck
