Question about 2001 Ford Explorer Sport

1997 2 door explorer sport Rear disks will not come off easily, might be rust , but maybe parking brake not sure as I don't want to use excessive force and not be able to drive vehicle. Is there a special puller or just heat to get off

Adjust rear drum brakes

How fix hand brake in voyager ?


I assume your referring to rusted parking brake
cables under the vehicle

Have to get under there & make sure they can be
pulled tight by hand at each rear drum brake & when you let
go they pull back into the drum & rear wheels turn
freely

Then you work on the cables & any rust you have to remove,
so they can be adjusted

Is there a certain way to change rear brake rotors. They seem to be frozen and will not come off. I did not see a set screw in the rotors like some of the new models have.


ok i have been doing the for 22 yrs..heres the prob...inside the rear brake rotors r ur parking brake shoes..there is either a rust lip the built up on the inside of the rotor causing the parking brake shoes to grab the rust lip when u try to remove the rotor..if this is the case u will also need to repalce the rear parking shoes and the parking brake shoe holddown spring kit since it will probably break when u have to pry the rotor off....or u maybe able to de adjust the rear shoes by the self adjuster...look on the back side of the other side of the brake rotor an u should see a over slot just below the control arm...if it there use a brake spoon or straight slot screw driver to de adjust the rear park shoes.move it up or down ..one way will tighten them the other way will loosen them...if ur rotor doesnt move at all take off the rear caliper an hit the back side of the brake rotor to knock it off

Excessive rear-brake wear


What type of vehicle?

Parking Brake Cables rusted and not releasing

On rear discs,the same & or rusted caliper internal
parking ratchet mechanism

On drums the obvious,neglect and seized adjusters,etc,
corroded wheel cylinders ( People do not flush brakes every two years)

I don't want to be the bearer of bad news, but all four brakes
on all vehicles, have to come apart once a year or more often,
and you make love to them. Remove all rust ,inspect,lube,adjust,etc

No one should EVER have a brake problem in their entire life
ALL brake issues are NEGLECT and LACK OF KNOWLEDGE

Right side rear brake drags


Remove all rust from pad and caliper sliding surfaces,eg metal to metal,not the pins,they get synthetic brake lube. Apply anti-seize to all sliding surfaces. Make sure you can screw in the rear caliper piston,if applicable, and manually ratchet up the parking brake,after caliper and pads are on. Bleed/Flush all 4 Wheels. Make sure you can slide the pads back and forth,before lubing end tabs. You may need to file a little off the ends or just remove the paint. Make sure parking brake cables are really releasing.

Excessive wear on 1997 s type jags rear brakes


Unfortunatly this is normal, nothing can be done about it. Get pads checked every 15,000 miles to save discs.

you may have to take the rotors back off completely and look for the baby brake shoes behind the rotors because sometimes they will hang up and give you some of the problems you are having

Brakes


There are a couple of possibilities. First, the caliper pistons could be rusted and sticking, or, more likely, the points at which the pads contact the brake assembly have rust built up which is restricting the pads from moving away when the brakes are released. My explorer had a problem with the latter condition. The brake pads should slide easily. I simply took a hammer knocked the rust off (with the pads removed of course). If you live in the north like me, salt and rust can be a big problem
