Power window driver side is stuck on 1986 Cougar

Power window on driver's side works intermittently. Currently, it is stuck in the closed position. Recently, after the car was serviced at Firestone, the window was stuck in the fully open position. The service tech checked the fuses, etc. and everything was in order. He disassembled the console where the switches are located for the windows and drivers power seat and applied a power probe on the terminals of the driver window control and was able to get the window to close and open several times by pressing the up and down positions on the switch itself. After putting everything back together, the window worked on its own using the switch for about two weeks when it suddenly stopped working in the fully closed position. I later bought a new switch from the Mercury dealer and replaced the old one, but this did not solve the problem as the window is still stuck in the up position. You can hear a slight click in the door when the switch is applied for down or up movement, but nothing happens. I'm just wondering if there is anything else I can do before I tackle the job of disassembling the door for a look-see. Also, I have no idea how to start taking the door apart from the inside. There is nothing obvious (nothing visible) that would give a clue as to how to take it apart. Any help would be appreciated.

I have the same problem. My button will not push up or down and luckily my window is stuck in the closed position.

I also have the same problem, unfortunately it is stuck in the fully open position. I tried to take off the panel, but so far it is a no go...it is partially on and partially off. I'm in a not so good position, any suggestions?

The passenger power window is stuck in the open position and all I want is to shut it. Is there a release button or something to override the power just to get it shut.

I had to same problem. I disassembled the switch block and found when I moved the switches for the back windows to the front of the block the window worked. The switch its self failed. I put it back to gather and left it, but all I need to do is get a new switch block for the drivers side.

It sounds like there is power there. Window motor/regulator is most probable cause of your strife. I had the same problem luckily it was just a bolt that had shaken loose of the support arm on the regulator i reattached the bolt and it opens and closes well enough

SOURCE: 1993 Mercury Cougar power window, driver side, will not move

the power window motor needs replacing. check at a salvage yard for a door intact and remove the panel use a hammer and chisel to remove the large rivets that hold the motor in place and cut enough wire so you can test it with a battery before installing in your car to install in your car you will need some small nuts and bolts with lock washers and put a little lock tight on the bolts so they don't come loose Good Luck!

What fuse controls driver side power window?

If the other window works fine then it is not your fuse. Chances are that your driver's window has an "auto down" feature. There is a relay inside the driver's side door that controls this feature. If the relay is bad then the window will not work. Solution 1) replace the relay. It cost about $50 from the dealer. Solution 2) remove the wire harness from the relay and "jumper" the plug to bypass the relay...this will allow you window to go down, without the "auto down" feature.

Power windows stopped working in my 86 subaru gl wagon

There has to be a fuse related to the power windows, check the owners manual. it may reside in a secondary panel in the engine compartment.

1993 Mercury Cougar power window, driver side, will not move

It could be one of about 3 things, the switch could be bad, the motor, or the window regulator. Sometimes you can hit the lower part of the door a couple of times wile holding the window switch to check the motor. I don't know how to check the switch but the cable on the regulator can brake and wrap around the motor not allowing it to run. The only way to check this is to take the door pannel off and see if the cable is broke.
