My rear brakes were making the same sound for over one year. My rear shoes were hard as a stone or glazed. The pads did not look worn, but they made the medal-on-medal sound when I braked. It was pretty loud.

I replaced the brakes shoes and the problem went away. I replaced the shoes myself in about a hour. They were not hard to figure out.

I am having the same problem and it's driving me crazy!!! I have heard that this problem is very common with the cruisers and there is NO recall or anything to fix it except trade-in... I read one thing that said they used Thermal-ceramic brake pads and such and the problem has not returned so... Good luck

I have a 2006 f-250, i have a grinding noise that sounds like it is coming from the rear wheels, but when i apply the brakes it stops. what could this be?

Are your brake pads worn? They will have a small metal tab on one of the pads on each side. These are referred to squeeker tabs. They let you know when your pads are worn enough to need changed before you get metal to metal part failure. They are designed to barely scrape against the rotor when the brakes are not applied and make an annoying noise. I would look again and make sure all rear pads are in good shape. If they are you might clean the brakes, sometimes a piece of dirt or debris can make the same noise. If you have one pad that is worn more than the rest make sure you clean and grease the caliper slide pins when you change the pads. Actually, you always want to make sure you clean and grease the slides when you do a brake job.

2006 pt cruiser making scraping noise when wheel turning to the right

is it a scraping noise or a clicking noise. a scraping noise could indicate a brake noise when turning have the brakes checked in the front. if its a clicking noise only when turning to the right then you may have a bad cv joint on the right half shaft. replace the half shaft assembly.

Question, you replaced tire on same rim? did you torque to specs? possible over tightened, possible coincidence and brakes are metal to metal.

New front brakes replace and rotors and i'm still hearing a metal on metal sound when I apply the brake

Are you sure the sound isn't coming from the rear brakes? If so, then Take off the wheel and slowly spin the hub to try to isolate the sound. Could be something bent a bit and is scraping.

Did you use brake lube on the back of the pad surface?

My hyndaui Veracruz started making a scrapping, grinding metal on metal sound from the back,,,any ideas???

Lots! Could be a loose piece of metal scraping on a wheel rim. It could be a cracked or broken brake drum. It could be a broken brake shoe inside the brake drum. It could be a broken brake spring inside the brake drum. It could be a bad wheel bearing inside a rear wheel. Enough?

Metal scraping sound near front left tire when turning

Sounds like the low pad level indicator on your brake pads are telling you that it's time to have a mechanic check your braking system.

Grinding in front brakes

Most common cause is the brake pads have worn and you have a metal to metal situation where there is no life left in the pads and they are scraping the rotors. Another cause could be a hung up caliper (you would notice the truck pull to one side or another when you apply the brakes if this is the case). One last possibility is worn out brake bearings that will grind when faulty. Either way, it sounds like you need a brake job that will include pads and rotors.

Rear Brake on passenger side makes a noise like a high speed rub

Thanks for the inquiry.
This sounds like the either the tattle-tail is giving you a signal the the brakes are worn and need to be replaced before they wear the drum/rotors. Depending on the extent of the sound it may also mean the shoes/pads are worn down far enough you have metal on metal scraping the rotors/drums making this noise when you apply the brake. In either case it's time to re-build your rear brakes.
Kind regards,
TF
