Question about 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier

Noise in rear when braking

My1996 Chevrolet Cavalier makes a pounding noise in the rear of the car when I hit the brakes. Feels and sounds like someone is kicking the rear bumper every time I apply the brakes going forward. I checked everything on the rear axel and can find nothing loose nor can I see where anything is shifting??? I just cant figure it out…

When braking the vehicle, the rear wheels lock up, causing the tires to skid, making a clunking noise in the rear. Brakes & drums appear to be in good shape. I always thought with ABS the brakes sould not lock at all.

Same problem here, knocking in rear passenger wheel when braking and moving forward only, inspected brake pads, and assemblies and saw no visible signs of anything wrong.

I have a 94 cavalier the abs light came on and now i have no brakes the pedal goes to the floor and some kind of noise is coming from under the hood

That sounds like you may have broken a brake line except for the noise under the hood. Unless it is brake fluid squirting up, hitting the hood. Check the inside of all four tires and under the hood on the driver's side below the wind shield. My guess is you are going to find a big oily spot where all of your brake fluid has gone.

Have a steady growl up front at hiway boots are not cracked and no clicking.what else could this be.brakes are good

More then likely wheel bearings. Make sure you check rear wheel bearings too. Noise travels very easily in the Cavalier. I had rear wheel bearings bad but sounded like front ones.

There is a breaking noise , feels like its not catching and skidding..

If you are talking about brakes, and the noise is a clicking sound, then you have drum brakes on the rear of your car. The springs in them break sometimes and causes a clicking noise. If it is a rubbing noise and you can feel a vibration in the steering wheel when you hit the brakes, it is a front rotor that is warped. If you haven't had a brake job in a couple of years, then your due.

Hissing noise heard when brake pedal is appilied. changed master cylinder, rear wheel cylinders front pads and rotors what is solution?

Is there any problems with the brakes besides the noise? If theyre acting up, it could be your brake booster. It's hard to determine without more specific details, brakes always make a quiet hissing noise, depends on where, how loud, how the pedal feels...

Brake problem

It sounds like your rear brakes needs to be service. Your brake shoes are worn too thin or the retainer clips are broken holding your brake shoes in the right place. Good luck

Brake problem on chevy cavlier

How is the brake fluid level in the master cylinder? If it's low, the brake light will come on. The right rear wheel and drum need to be removed to inspect the brakes and see what is going on. Your description sounds like there may be some brake hardware floating around inside the drum. Let me know what u find. Curt

Rear end clunk in Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pickup

The noise is caused by the axle button being worn out, this lets the axle move back and forth and clunk, this is a unique problem with C clip retained axles, it is a noise issue but will not fail and cause any more damage, in order to fix it you must have the axles pulled and the diff carrier checked for excess wear where the axle retainning C clip rides, if the carrier is ok then replace the axles.
