Question about 1997 Hyundai Elantra
I went to get a smog check done on my car because I needed it to get a new registration. When they hooked up the computer to my car they could not get a connection. I even too the car back to the person who did the smog check on this same car twice before and they could not get a connection to their computer, they even try hooking up a scanner and still no reading. Any help here?
a 6ya Mechanic can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Ok you will have to have it scanned. It probably has cylinder misfire codes and random cylnder misfires. You could need spark plugs and or coils. The scan will tell you exactly which cylinder is missing. That will cure your problem and remember to change your oil and filter right before you go in for the smog test. Also if the car hasn't been serviced in a while it would be a good idea to replace the air filter and fuel filter.

CA you can take the car to a referree and get a one time waiver if you have spent a minimum of $450 on repairs not including smog fees. Gives you two years to get it fixed.
