Question about Daihatsu Charade

Open Question

THE DAIHATSU MODEL I'm working on (which Isn't listed) is a 1999 DAIHATSU S210P HIJET Mini-Truck 4x4, 659cc engine. Distributorless ignition, direct fuel injection engine. The timing is controlled by the computor under the dash via imformation fed from a camshaft timing sensor at the front of the engine. NOW MY PROBLEM IS: While driving the truck it began to sound like there was a stick or something stuck under the vehical in radiator fan. Affter further inspection nothing was found. Re started the vehical and would barley run. If I can get the engine past 650 rpm's without it dying, the engine starts to knock alot like the timing is off so I shut it down. I pulled the spark plugs and other than the gap they all looked the same (alittle black/not fouled). I replaced the plugs with new plugs one heat range colder but still have the identical problem. Next I checked for fuel pressure which is ok (35psi) and there is plenty of fuel volume. WHERE DO I GO FROM HERE? I haven't been able to locate any information in English from Diahatsu. Any help in solving this problem will be greatly aprieciated. Thanks, Rob CA

Your throttle position sensor should be located on the throttle body opposite of where the throttle cable hooks on too. Look for a small black box on the other side with wires leading into a connector. get your codes read and re post them it could be a simple fix.

SOURCE: 91 Dodge ram 50 ignition problem, rough idle in drive, dies when braking

my ram 50 starts just like any other vehicle, (no light switch pulling whatso ever), it sounds like somebody haas rewired something wrong or you have a loose connection and when you hit a large enough bump it cuts your power. Start it up and find a speed bump somewhere and drive over it enough to give your truck a jolt and see if it dies.

SOURCE: Hesitation and stumbling.

Before you do that, check which thermostat it has in it, if it has one that is letting it get too warm or not completely up to temp when the computer think it should be, it would cause this. My 2000 crown vic did the same thing and thats what it was.

SOURCE: I have a 1985 Chevy C/30 pick-up with a 7.4L 454.

85 with TBI only needs 13lbs of fuel pressure. verify that the fuel filter is clean. there is no easy way to ck fuel pressure, special adapters are needed, I dont have info here at home but there should be a relay for the pump, on the firewall and the oil pressure switch also powers the pump. did you replace the pump trying to fix this problem or did you just mention it to help troubleshoot the problem? verify that the fuel pump wiring has a good ground, should have been a eyelet that bolted to the frame..when you initially turn the key on, you should hera the fuel pump power up for 2 seconds, then go off, after the engine starts, the power for the pump goes through the oil pressure switch.

Click on the following free direct Link. It has the Timing: Belt and Mark Diagrams for the 1988 Daihatsu Charade 1.0L 3-Cylinder which is the closest to the Hijet. Plus additional Instructional and Directional Diagrams.

Note: the annotated Align Matings Marks located on the engine casing, or the Belt Alignment Marks.
I owned one of these while living in Japan.
