Question about 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier

2 Answers

I am installing an after market stereo deck into a 2004 Chevy Cavalier but I am not getting any power. From my research I need to hook the deck up to the vehicles ignition harness but I do not know where that is located. Can you tell me where the vehicle ignition harness is and what color wires am I looking for?

If its not getting power you would have to hook up the red wire from the aftermarket radio and tie it into the yellow wires. That makes it direct power to the battery or you can run a wire from the ignition fuse in the fuse box to the red wire on the aftermarket radio so it turns off with the car . If u hook it up to the yellow wires, make sure you shut your radio off or your battery will run died. So it's just smarter to run a wire from the fuse box

How difficult is it to install an after market sony stereo in 2004 chevy venture. My CD player broke and I want to upgrade. I am somewhat of a Saturday mechanic but dont want to et too complicated.

The problem with doing an after market stereo yourself is that your door chimes run through the stereo speakers amongst other things controlled by the body control module.. You may be better off picking up a used one from a salvage yard and saving yourself some headaches.

My 2004 Grand Am GT Stereo Issue

I had the same problem when I changed out the factory cd player. I finally found the problem was that grand am gt cars have a couple of amplifiers with crossovers in them for the speakers and the after market stereos put out sound that has been slightly amplified already and when you hook up your new stereo to the wiring harness your sending amplified sound from your stereo the the factory amp then to the speakers this sometimes messes with he sound and clarity of the sound. My car is 2002 and the factory amps are located 1 under the glove box and 2 in the trunk behind the carpet on the drivers side. The amp and crossover in the front is to split the signal for the door speaker and the tweeter by the mirror and the amp in the trunk is to split the signal for the two way speaker in the back by the back window witch if they are like my factory speakers have 2 wiring harnesses connected to each speaker. the only way I could get mine to sound good was to run new wires from your stereo directly to the speakers and bypass the factory amps. This may not be the only way to fix this issue but it was the only way I could figure it out. I hope this helps

Stop by your local car stereo shop & see if they sell them, I believe Mac Tools & or Snap on carry's them. Trying to pry the deck out will almost certainly damage the mount bracket thus loosing your secure fit.
