Your vehicle has the 3.4 ltr engine and the 4T65E model transmission,which i have rebuilt many,many of.First,verify the transmission fluid level is FULL,and not low,also verify by pulling the pan,that the filter is in place.If all that checks out,then the problem is internal.For the problem you are describing,there are two areas to address.The first,which can be checked outside the trans with a 0-300 psi gauge is the EPC solenoid.EPC stands for Electronic Pressure Control.It is an electrically controlled solenoid that regulates mainline pressure inside the trans.The OEM (original equipment manufacturer) solenoid is known to be problematic,and erratic,causing your vehicle's symptoms of neutralling out,and slamming back into gear.The other area is the Forward piston inside the Forward/3rd gear input drum.The steel piston gets a ridge worn into it,and when it tries to apply at a stop light upon taking off,the ridge causes the piston to hang up momentarily,and then when it frees up,again,a neutral/slam into gear.Common problem that i have had to address over and over on these transmissions.Good luck.

some also have a transmission computer on the firewall that interfer with driving down the road if they go bad it will cause vehicle to downshift and go slow and then go no where until it cools down then it will crank and go again.

Your going to put twice the amount into

Slipping out of gear

check fluid levels add if low..retry the car and see also if the fluid is brown and dirty when you check it..change the fluid and filter in the trans mission and it should work ok also look at any vacuum lines that run down to the transmission see if they are good..

I was driving down the road at about 55 mph, and then it seems that the transmission slipped into neutral, or what I assumed was neutral. I coasted to a stop, put the van in park and shut it off. When i...

If the Battery warning lamp is coming on, the engine stalls and the starter just clicks, and you have to have it jump started to get going again [I assume anyway] then it sounds like the charging system isn't always working and the battery is getting drained to the point that the engine computer and fuel pump quit working. Low voltage can also affect how the transmission functions and when the transmission goes into a default position you'll only have Park, Reverse, Nuetral, and 2nd gear. [it may seem like first gear however] I'd start by having the charging system tested to make sure it's capable of putting out the full amperage and voltage that it's rated at and have all the battery connections and cables looked over to be sure they are capable of delivering all the current needed to run everything. I think you'll probably find the fix for most of the problems in that area. Hope this helps and good luck!

Hello,
It sounds as if the transmission's clutch plates are excessively worn. You have 2 options;
1. Replace all of the transmission fluid & the filter too. That may fix the problem although not guaranteed to work completely.

2. Do what I ultimately had to do (after trying the 1st thing) and bring it to a Transmission repair shop and have it rebuilt for $1,400 (as good as new). I thought the van was worth it and I could get a lot more miles from it of course you have to determine this for your self and your van's condition.

Good Luck!

Transaxle control module

I have a 1993 Caravan with a 4speed trans.. I had to replace the transaxle control module. I paid $50.00 for it at a auto salvage yard and It corrected the problem. My trans would either go into limp mode or act like it was in Neutral.
