Count all the plug wires. this will tell you how many cylinders you have. For better gas mileage make sure you check the air in all the tires, change the oil, air and fuel filters. Give it a good tune up and keep your foot out of it. drive easy start and easy stop. this will help your gas mileage.

There are four things required for an engine to run: air, fuel, compression and properly timed spark. If you have fuel and timed spark, the only two variables are air and compression. Air is not the likely problem, and compression should be good unless you blew a head gasket or the rings in all four cylinders. How did you determine that you have fuel and spark? Those are the two most likely problem areas.

2004 chevy classic malibu idle fluctuates with a/c on. While it fluctuates, the light on the a/c button turns on and off. Any idea what this could be?

A poor electrical connection in the circuit to the A/C pump. A lot of times it is a simple splice needed near the pump. As the lines on gas (freon or any other) when compressed, get hot. It's easy to accidentally let one of those wires hit a "hot" spot during other activity, under the hood. CHeck that the connection on the compressor (or if 2 connections) are clean, & secured.

I have a 2004 chevy malibu classic. car ran out of gas and stopped. put gas in and tried too restart the car. car wont start but you can smell gas and wants too start but wont.

Hi, you may have it flooded. Try holding the accelerator all the way down while cranking the engine to clear the gas out. Let us know if this doesn't work, and thanks for using FixYa.

I have the same problem right now. I am going to buy a new gas cap (since that is the cheapest possible fix) in hopes that will be why it's on. I am getting the code P0455 and that is a possiblility. fingers crossed. LOL

My 2005 chevy malibu is not getting gas. not sure if it is the built in anti theft causing it or if it is the fuel pump. how can u tell the difference. (the security theft light goes on and off) and where...

Hello pass.... The fuel pump is in the gas tank. The malibu does not have any fuel filters it only has a strainer on the fuel pump itself. You will have to drop the gas tank to get to the fuel pump.
The Malibu Classic (8th letter of VIN is "F") with the 2.2 Ecotech 4-cylinder engine has a fuel filter between the fuel tank and the rear axle. One end of the filter has a threaded connector and the other is a typical compression style. Regarding the antitheft system, if that is the problem I recommend that you contact an autoelectric repair shop and get them involved as they have the diagnostic tools and the wiring diagrams to get to the bottom of these complex devices. Is there a plug on the radiator of a 2004 chevy malibu

On the V6, there is a drain plug on the bottom of the driver side plastic tank. On the 4 cylinder, it's on the other tank at the bottom.
