1998 deville dash says trunk open, does this cause battery to drain overnight?

If the trunk is 'open' ... there is probably a light in the trunk and the light will kill the battery over night ... yes. Adjust the switch to fix this problem.

I can nit open my trunk on my 1996 jAGUAR XJ6.

ok, if the key won't open this then the lock is jammed and if you don't want to damage anything, I know I wouldn't, I would take it to a mechanic. The jammed may have been what killed your battery if the valet trunk open was not working it may have been shorted out. There is a way to jump vehicles with the battery in the trunk like that but I am not familiar with it and if the buttin doesn't work to release the trunk it would do you no good anyway. most likely you are looking at replacing teh truck locking mechanism.

Starting grand am.

Make sure the trunk switch isn't stuck "on"... Could be wrong but it seems that it may always be activated and is killing your battery. Unplug the solenoid on the trunk lock if you can open it with a key, and see if after battery is re-charged, it still has a problem!

Keys locked in running car.

Use your spare key to open the trunk, pull the positive battery cable to kill the car, wait 5 minutes, re connect cable, try to open door again.
