The EGR valve is a good suggestion and a good place to start. You may also want to check the throttle positioning sensor, mass airflow sensor, and th O2 sensor. Any of these can cause the problem your experiencing.

EGR valve....it is an item that opens under certain conditions, but should close when you go to idle. They can get dirty, but mainly they will have a tendency to close on a small piece of carbon from the exhaust system, and when they do that, it acts like a vacuum leak. The carbon or rust flake will often be blown out the next time it opens, and all will act normal, till it does it again.
Ask them to check that, and there are screens available to keep those bigger flakes from passing thru.

its suppose to go in and out not easy but still when you put it back from the base of the idle air control to the tip 1 and 1/8 remove the black stuff on it and inside the throttle body if you use a cleaner the car might be harder to start its normal just floor the gas pedal and it will start vacation for me check it out tonight if you whant thanks pierre

When i come to a stop the car wants to die unless u keep ur foot on the gas

Hi Wendi:
If the engine runs fine except when you don't have your foot on the gas, maybe the idle stop needs to be adjusted. With the engine off, have someone step on the gas pedal while you look at the linkage at the carb. There should be a plate with a screw in it that keeps the butterfly valve from closing completely. This can be adjusted with the engine running. (SAFETY FIRST - MOVING PARTS CAN BITE)
If the engine will only run at not nice too high RPM, chances are that the idle jet in the carb is plugged, and a carb cleaning and possibly overhaul may be needed.

Drive vehicle down the road for 20 minutes and come to a stoplight engine stops when you take foot off gas peddle and go to apply brake. To keep vehicle from dying you have to hold the gas peddle down

Have you changed the timing belt? or timing belt guides? How many miles? This does not necessarily have to do with fuel.... Could have to do with air intake or timing as well....

My car hesitates when i stop at a stop sign or light

Try o2 sensor that fixed my 92 park avenue with same problems. I had to keep my foot on the gas pedal at stops or it would die. The o2 sensor is located at the back of the motor on the exhaust manifold. It screws in to it and has a little wire running out that clamps on the fire wall.

Car dies when gas is pressed.

I suspect the throttle position sensor, does the engine keep running if you take your foot off the gas before it dies? Like you can keep stabbing at the pedal and make the engine barely run but keep going so long as you take your foot off at the right time, if so it's the throttle position sensor not working AT ALL... (TPS) - http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/raframecatalog.php?catalog=903&partnum=5S5050&a=UK903-5S5050 this is the part, its on the throttle body, you can check the cabling first make sure it's not just come loose (unplug and replug a few times and try the engine again)- If no difference then buy the part and fit it, one out one in. and I'd look for a cheaper price (around $40) this is just to show you what to look for on the throttle body.

Won't idle

The problem could very well be your Idle Air Control Valve. If you're a handy person it costs about $40.00 and takes 10 minutes to replace. Best way to check it is to unplug it while it is running. If the valve is bad it will keep running. If it is good, unplugging it will shut the engine off, and that means it's doing its job. Happened w/ my dakota and I'm about to replace it in my Grand Cherokee.
