Re: 1999 olds cutlass glove box removal
You need to remove all the screws on the bottom of the glove box on the outside, then on the inside remove all the screws too. and then pull it out. sometimes some glove boxes have stoppers on the edge of the door inside and you have to pry on them to pull the stoppers in front of the side of the glove box so you can remove it entirely from the dash.

The ECM is located right behind the glove box. First remove the negative (-) battery cable. Then remove the front of your glove box, just a few small screws. The interior of the glove box is cardboard and will pull out after removal of screws. Then unplug the 3 electrical plugs and let them hang out of the way. Now, remove the bolts on the side of the bracket holding the ECM IN.

You have to find the linkage and pull it. If yu cannot find the linkage, one trick is to go to a self serve wrecking yard and play with one of the 90s olds by removing the door panel and looking at it to see how it works.
Then programmable read only memory (PROM) chip that you are asking about is located inside the electronic control module.
This module is located just above the glove compartment in the dash area.
Removal of the glove compartment is required to remove this module. After removing the ECM you will note a small access cover. Remove this cover and you are at the PROM.
Good luck, it is quite easy.
