How do i replace the coil packs on 94 Mercury Grand Marquis i got a bad miss and a back fire when climbing hills


First check your coils, in a dark area start your vehicle and with a spray bottle with water, spray over coils, if you see arcing, you have bad coils, which could be causing your miss fires. Coil packs are held by nuts or bolts, remove these and then pry upward with fingers while twisting in a clockwise and counter clockwise motion. Remove spark plugs and check them. Might consider in performing a tune up.

The Knock Sensor (KS) is a tuned accelerometer on the engine which converts engine vibration to an electrical signal. The PCM uses this signal to determine the presence of engine knock and to retard spark timing.
Removal & Installation

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2. Remove the intake manifold.
  3. Remove the bolt and the Knock Sensor (KS).
  4. To install, reverse the removal procedure and tighten mounting bolt to 15ft. lbs. (20 Nm).

I started the car to warm up when i came back out to leave car was off,and wouldnt start anymore,starter seemed like it got hot

or modified with remote start (bad)

ever do a tune up this decade or every 60k miles>?
you placed your hand on the starter casing>?
the engine runs at up to 200F hot. and the starter is bolted to the
engine and will go to about 150F, that is hot, and normal.
in Alaska, less on starter, but same for coolant.(inside)_

it stall, stalls are complex but i can reduce it to a physics, answer.
1: engine lost compression or cant pump air (its an air pump)
2: lost spark (that tune up waiting. a voice calling , tune me up)
3: bad fueling, too much called flooding or starvation.
4: idle controls failed.

why not start car and drive off, the engine will last 2 times longer.

How to tune the engine


There is a center bolt in the harmonic balancer IE the lower pulley on the engine . Removeing the plugs will make it easyer to do but put a socket on the center bolt and turn its called baring it over because you can use a braeker bar on the socket to get more leverage

How do you set the points on a196 cu. in motor


Mark the position of the distributor. Remove cap. Loosen the distributor hold down bolt.and turn distributor to raise the points cam follower to one of the lobes on the cam. Remove the screw that holds the points assembly. Remove points with the capacitor attached. Put you new points in the same position as the ones that you removed. Points should have .030" gap. Tighten points- hold-down screw. Turn the distributor to the original (marked) position. Tighten distributor hold-down bolt. You should now be able to start, but you may need to set the timing.

Where is the horn? and how to change it? MB S430 2000


Horn is normally located in the inward of front bumper. To remove it you have either remove the bumper or open the hood, then remove the headlight to get access to it. Because it is located in lower parts of bumper (just like halogen lights). If it is not working or only one working you can try to tune it rather than replace. It can be tuned by screwing the bolt that is on the back of the horn.

Alternator Removal


Alternator - REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Raise and safely support the front of the vehicle securely on jackstands.
  3. Remove the passenger side engine and transaxle splash shield.
  4. Remove the alternator wiring harness bracket bolt from the rear of the alternator.
  5. Disconnect the alternator electrical connector from the alternator.
  6. Remove the ground wire nut and wire.
  7. Remove the B terminal wire boot. Remove the B terminal nut and wire.
  8. Loosen the inner and outer alternator to bracket mounting bolts.
  9. Loosen the alternator adjustment lock bolt.
  10. Turn the alternator adjustment bolt counterclockwise to loosen the belt.
  11. Remove the belt from the alternator.
  12. Remove the alternator lock bolt and washer.
  13. Remove the inner alternator to bracket mounting bolt and two washers.
  14. Remove the outer alternator to bracket mounting bolt and two washers.
  15. Remove the alternator.
  16. The installation is the reverse of removal.
  17. Adjust the drive belt. For the procedure, please refer to General Information and Maintenance, Routine Maintenance and Tune-Up, Belts, Adjustment, Alternator.

On my chevy S-10 blazer I get a vibration. Its been tuned and I even changed the harmonic balancer. could the vibration be coming from an out of balanced torque converter?


You can eliminate it by removing the bolts between the flywheel and the torque converter. A weak cylinder can cause this also. Do the basics, check plug colors, compression test, and even a leak down test to start.

Hi there,

M ycar had the same problem and changing the Fuel Pump Relay fixed it. it is found on the fuse box, but you have to remove the cover. There are 5-6 torx bolts, remove the cover and it is the part that has a 103 on the top, it is red.

just remove all the bolts and hoses atached to the upper intake or go to the autoparts and buy a book for this specific car
