Question about 2008 Toyota Camry

3 Answers

SAND I bought my new 2008 Camry a month ago. They gave me the car covered all over with desert like sand. Layers of sand were everywhere in wheels bays, engine compartment, radiator and fans, cabin air inlets etc. The local dealer tells me that the layers of sand everywhere do not degrade neither the reliability of the car, nor its life duration. I doubt. what shall I do?

    From reading the user manual of the Camry I have understood that using the car in dirty conditions requires special maintenance program. When I by a new car, I do not expect that it would be subjected to these kind of conditions, or drived by the dealer into sandy fields before handling it to me.

    What can be wrong with my new Camry due to the presence of so much sand everywhere (doors hinges, fresh air inlet, wheels systems, engine systems, radiator system etc.)? Even after the dealer cleaned it twice, a lot of places are still covered by sand. It is unbelieveable..

Hi,

Offhand, I would suggest:

  • Write a formal letter of complaint to the dealer copy furnished Toyota North America or the closest Toyota;
  • It would be preferable that the letter be prepared and signed by your legal counsel;
  • Copy furnished consumer protection sites of your letter. MyCar Stats.Com would be one;
  • Document all your communications, log time, date, contact person. Additionally, if the evidence of sand could still be seen, it would be to your advantage if pictures could be taken.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

    It may be necessary to have the car thoroughly cleaned preferably by an authorized Toyota Service Center (not necessarily your dealer). Troublesome as it maybe, ask for a Service Report and see if somehow sample of the sand could be collected, certified to have come from your car, bag and tag. Tell them that it is for a (probable) legal proceedings. You may have to pay for the cleaning job but the receipt would be another evidence in your favor.

    Just a thought. The letter could be snail mail, registered, not an email.

    Hi again,

    Sand by its very nature is abrasive. Its presence in any moving part(s) like hinges, slides, bearings and most other part/component of the vehicle would introduce unnecessary grinding like action which of course would lead to early deterioration. In some extreme cases, engine failures could be attributed to sand entering the crankcase. In normal everyday use, sand in the intake system could lead to clog air filter.

Plz contact your dealer and ask for clarification, if they dont bother to listen,plz lodge a complain to their higher authorites if still they dont give you proper explanation then you better ask your lawyer an act accoding to them.

Traction control uses several things to work probably including brakes, wheel speed sensors, etc. If only the Trac off light is on then there is a problem with the traction control system.

Bought a manual Toyota camry 2000 model 4 days ago from wellington and drove it to gisborne. Gave it my all and now it smokes from the engine yet still drives fine. What did I do?

where is smoke coming from the tail pipe or under the hood . suspect leaking valve cover gaskets . it is after all a 15 year old auto .nothing lasts forever .giving it your all sounds like you drove as fast and as hard as you could and that is not how one treats OLD things.

Unlock steering wheel & ignition cyclinder to replace it with new one

double posted backup one (i gave 3 choices there)
define cant. (cant figure)
or the anti-theft bolts confusing you , the FSM covers all that
why not read that first. then ask questions.

to make cars not easy to seal they make it like this,
90 to now.
it needs to be removed the whole assembly.
anti theft bolts,off, , assmbly off, may take steering wheel off too.
the hand to lock smith (just did a 91) and he
uses special smith drift pins to drive the hidden (backside away from thieves, internal lock pin, he tumbler comes out or he drills it out.
then a new pin, and holding new tumbler, and then test it , ok ,
the reversses all above.
the fsm covers this all step by step, why must you avoid books.
