Why does my timingmakes a ratteling noise

You didn't state what model car or engine, but if it has a timing chain (rather than a timing belt), the tensioner may not be working on the chain, or the chain may be stretched. Have it checked out and repaired (tensioner) or replaced (chain) soon. If the chain gets loose enough, it can skip a tooth on the crankshaft or camshaft and your engine will run very poorly, and eventually can quit running or damage the valves/pistons.

1995 Grand AM SE timing chain randomly skips... Rides up on crank gear.. We bought a new chain tensioner, does not solve problem. Please help

It's likely that the timing chain is on a warped pulley rendering a jumping effect, which will make it jump to another side.

1999 dodge status jumped timing how do i adjust it without timing light

if it jumped timing that usually means the belt or chain has skipped. this is not an external adjustment. It requires replacement of said chain or belt. Hopefully no valves were damaged.

My 1994 chrysler new yorker is skipping. Could this be the timing mechanism?

Yes this can be a skipped timing belt or chain.......depending on the engine size. It may also be a fouled or worn out spark plug or plug wire.

Is there and issue with 94 nissan pick up and the timing chain coming off. I had it replaced in 07 and it came off again 2 days ago. Thats what the mechanic says anyway.

I'm assuming this is the 2.4L engine? If so, I have a 1992 with 232,000 miles on it and haven't had the timing chain out of it yet so as a rule they are pretty dependable. Usually what I find when I see a chain skip or come off is that there is a problem with the chain guide, the tensioner, an out of line sprocket, or a severly worn chain that is causing the chain to derail. I see far more chains that skip a tooth or two than I ever see that actually come off of the sprockets so I would take an extra good look at the tensioner and guides to start with. Wish I had more for you but hope this helps a bit!

We have a dodge stratus 2006 4 cylinder, timing chain has been replace, it started and now it turns and won't start, help

The timnig could be out of time. The system could have skipped . When replacing the timing chain you should turn the engine over by hand with out starting two or three times to make sure the marks stay lined up. The timing chain tensioner could be weak.

Good Luck

Truck skips

timing chain may be bad put the cylinder on #1 up to the top and make sure the timing marks on the front pully is pointing to the fromt timing mark o degrees next pull #1 plug pull distributor cap and move the fan back and forth watch the rotor if it takes time to move then you have a badtiming chain. if not try replacing the oil pressure switch behind and below the distributior.
