2002 kia sedona van

Our van started not keeping good charge; lights going dim, cd player going crazy, air bag, brake, and battery lights came on and stayed on. Battery dies every other day. So our mechanic checked the alternator, the battery, everything from a-z. We narrowed it to the computer. Put the new in today with a new battery and the lights are still on and still won't stay charged. HELP!

I had the same problem but it wound up being the alternator. I had taken it out, had it tested , tested fine, 3 days later went a scream and the alternator finally bit the dust. There was a long time of issues until this finally happened. lights, cd player, jump starts, dragging in the drive... then it finally went all the way. It seems the alternator had moments of clarity and then drain my battery.....................

I just bought a used 2003 Kia Sedona EX with 28,000 miles. I thought I was getting a good deal, we hadn't even put 25 miles on it yet, when the battery and brake lights came on, and not shortly after it just died. Luckily I was rolling into my driveway when it bit the dust. So I changed the battery. Next day, same problem. When and had the alternator and battery tested, and they said everything tested fine, that the battery was a little low but to charge overnight and will be fine. So I did that, the next day, same problem. Took to a different place to test and they said the alternator was going bad. Funny thing is the place where I purchased the alternator said this was the first alternator they had sold for a Kia. I called 2 different Kia service departments and both haven't even heard of this problem occurring! I have bought a new alternator in the meantime with a lifetime guarantee, trying to get the old alternator out seems to be the trick. Kia didn't leave much room to work in those engines.

There is a TSB for this problem. See and you will need to register but there is a lot of info. Part of the fix is the new alternator has a smaller 55 mm pulley instead of the original 65 mm pulley. When you order the new alternator, tell them it has to have the new 55 mm pulley. I ordered 2 and they both came with the old 65. NAPA with a machine shop in house was able to put my old pulley on the new alternator since they keep coming with the old one. If you still have trouble after replacing the battery and alternator you may have a problem in the circuit.

There has been known issues with the alternator on several year/versions of this car. If memory serves me right, there was a TSB for the alternator either over or undercharging. The TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) specifies replacing the alternator and re-flashing the PCM.(Powertrain Control Mudule).

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

My 2002 kia sedona won't idle until warms up, dies when put into gear ...any ideas??

Is the check engine light on? you could have a bad ignition fail sensor, TPS sensor, or bad o2 sensor. it could also be a bad mass air flow sensor or a vacuum leak. without a code to help pin point the problem I'd start by checking those things first. Maybe try unplugging the mass airflow sensor and start it up and see if anything changes.

I have a Kia Sedona van 2002 . I stoped to fill it up with gas but i left it running after i filled it up full the van started acting funny and died. I started it back up ran alright then the rpms go up...

Could be a sensor , but without testing , this would be a guess ! Have seen TPS - throttle position sensors on chysler products do this , Mass air flow sensors on GM vehicles , plus bad IAC - idle air control motor . Don't think you would like to replace all these parts , your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop . Have it tested !

My 2002 Kia sedona van was going down highway , it made a grinding sound , motor died , now starter just clicks, motor won't turn over : whats could be the problem ?

Starter clicking, not enough power to turn motor over. Check the battery, make sure charge is full. If it is, your starter is shot, replace it

2007 kia sedona stalled, and battery dying

I own a 2007 Kia Sedona LX. I have had it since Nov if 2009. I m replacing my battery every six month due to the fact that the vehicle has a draw and has had since the day I bought it. The ESC light is saying off.. It was under warranty by Doug Smith autoplex and I have taken it there complaining about this problem. I was told that when they test my charging system it has the normal factory draw. I took it there again and was told it is working fine and not to return. They made me feel crazy.I have been fighting this problem for 4 years. Now that my vehicle is no longer under warranty, Doug Smith Autoplex has magically found a problem with it. Upon fixing the problem, THE VEHICLE STILL DRAINS THE BATTERY DEAD OVER A PERIOD OF 2 DAYS! I have called KIA headquarters in Irvine California. They haven't been helpful whatsoever. I have stopped many people that own my year of Van and asked is they experience the same problem. I m surprised to find that many of them have complained about replacing batteries OFTEN! So this is a FACTORY ISSUE! BEWARE BUYING A KIA SEDONA. People are complaining about in on youtube also. I m returning to Doug Smith tomorrow to again try to fix the problem.

Air bag light

if the air bag stays on that means you have a problem with the air bag system, and you need to have it diagnose, but if you just bought the sedona from a used car dealer they have to fix it, it is part of the safety inspection requred by law
