Question about 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Tranny failed '96 Grand Cherokee Orvis Edition

Driving along in town, felt like someone shifted me into neutral, but still in drive, transmission wouldn't engage. No noise or thumping, just silent failure as if in neutral. Went back into gear for a short time, then failed again. Tried reverse, worked once then failed, sometime grinding noise in reverse. Would not engage any gear after all, got it towed home, wondering what happened, solution, costs. Michael.

Okay, first check the linkage going from the shifter to the tranny. Block the wheels and have someone watch the shift linkage on the trans while shifting. Maybe it's just loose, broken, or stripped. If linkage is good, it's either your shifter solenoids or torque converter

check fluid level in the transmission. Run the fault codes and look for a faulty servo/solenoid on the torque converter clutch or for a faulty TCM unit

Loss of engine power/transmission 2001 chevy tahoe over 65 mph

Sound's as though a previous owner installed a speed governor so that the engine would not exceed the nationwide 55-65 mph speed limit average. This most likely was a company owned vehicle or owned by someone concerned about speeding ticket's or excessive speed by a teenage driver. It can be uninstalled by an experienced mechanic. Unless this poses a problem while driving on an interstate, you may wish to leave it as is.

2007 Hyundai Santa Fe 2.2 Diesel, transmission went into neutral while driving.

Check transmission fluid level if low on fluid it will suck air and transmission forward clutch can not apply. If fluid is full and clean looking RED in color shift control solenoids are the problem and internal. BROWN and BLACK fluid indicates the forward clutch was slipping and now has no holding power for movement. this case the transmission needs reconditioning.

96 camaro stops moving on drive for no reason

I just had the same problem my truck felt as though it shifted into neutral after transmission got hot and then when it cooled it shifted normal, transmission lost high gear.
if your car starts right away the maybe its your neutral safety switch.
hope this helps, I am not a transmission guy, just what I would check first.
