Cylinder misfires can be cleared most often by a simple tune-up that includes changing the spark plugs and wires (if applicable). If It has "coil packs" on the plugs that would be the next thing to look at. also the fuel injectors may be dirty.

My 07 forenza had a code come up saying misfire on 1 and 4 plug so I replaced coil pack now it's reading #3 misfire and has a sluggish take off.Any ideas are appreciated

The sluggish take off is most likely due to a misfire. Pull the spark plug wire on cyl#3 and hold it over an engine ground. It should spark constantly with engin cranking/running. If spark is present..... most likely a bad spark plug. However, there are many more things that can attribute to a misfire but this is the most common

It's very possible that you have either a vacuum leak on the intake runner to that cylinder, or a faulty or plugged injector.

CEL light flashing-shuddering when idle. 03 passat 1.8 Turbo. Thinking its an air leak somewhere? Can hear air but can't figure out where its coming from...

A flashing cel indicates misfiring. A common problem is a bad ignition coil. The easiest route for diagnosis is the check the trouble codes(autozone and some other parts stores will scan for free, or an OBDII code reader is not too expensive to buy). The code should tell you which cylinder is misfiring(PO301 means cyl #1, 302 cyl #2, etc). Once you know which it is, swap the ignition coils around. If you have a #1 misfire, swap coils 1 and 4, clear the codes, then check it again. If the misfire moves, you know you've got a bad coil. If the misfire is air or fuel related, as with an intake leak, other codes should come up as well as the misfire.

Sounds like it may be running a bit lean - do basic checks for air leaks in the induction system (such as leaking manifold gasket, loose hose fittings to air flow sensor etc).
Condition of HT leads also worth a check.

Engine light flashing

It sounds like you have a misfire. Anytime a misfire is detected by the powertrain control module (PCM) it flashes the check engine light (CEL) on and off. Do not drive it this way because it won't take long to damage the catalytic converter. Have the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) read with a scan tool or "code reader" to see what DTC or DTCs are set. If it's a 4 cylinder, it will have a P0301 set for a cylinder # 1 misfire, a P0302 for a cyl # 2 misfire & so on. If the misfire is random (ocurring in multiple cylinders intermittently) it will have a P0300 set. Once you know which cylinder is misfiring you can check that cyl to see what the cause might be. It could be an ignition coil or spark plug failure. The # 1 cyl is always the one closest to the front of the eng or this car, the one closest to the passenger side fender.
