My van dies it does start back up. I have had several things checked Like the intake manifold. Replaced the fuel filter, replaced coil ignition, replaced crankshaft sensor, camshaft sensor and distributor rotor. Fuel pump is working, fuel pressur was all good over 50psi constant 52 when running 60....... just will not stay running and i even blew out lines used starter fluid to start it before it went out, then it just stopped from running, but when i let it sit for about 20min,it started right up but didn't stay running.so we r all confused now,i need help

Amazing.....At this very moment in time.....my 2000 silhouette is doing the same thing....if you were unaware.....ventures Montana's and silhouette are from the same mold. Very similar in all aspects. My diagnostics have got to the fuel pump part of suspects....but I have already checked filter, relays, fuses and ignition electronics....my latest suspect is the pressure sensor that monitors the pressure of the gas tank....there is also a pressure sensor on the injector rail I'm suspicious of. I'm going to find out how to place each sensor in "okay ....fuel pump turn on and pump fuel to the throttle body" to check them. In my case....I don't smell any gas after turning the engine over....trying to start it.....sometimes for over an hour....never any gas smell....so I suspect fuel delivery is the problem. The fuel pump has several sensors that control whether or not it needs to run....and pump gas. I can hear my fuel pump run for 2 or3 seconds when I turn the ignition to the on or start positions.testing all of those sensors is my plan of action for this 3 day weekend. Your on track with your work and suspicion of the position sensors......vacuum leaks will follow the sensor checks. Vacuum leaks could cause a couple of sensors to fail too.....I dropped my fuel tank last weekend....and found the fuel pump to be in working condition.....I removed my fuel filter and punched a hole through it for free flow.....to eliminate it from the list...after checking the vacuum angle....I will move to the electronics side.....with the ignition switch first and the transmission position indicator switch following.....I've plugged my trouble code reader in and didn't get any indication of any failed electronic devices......my problem and your problem seem to be very similar, except that I am doing all of my work on the van myself. I will try to keep you informed of my diagnostics through fix it.it would be nice to know how yours is advancing too.....there are a few directions you can progress into.....hope one solves your problem....if not.....there will be more ideas to come....until I solve my problem....good luck to. Us both and onward we go......Nick.ps couldn't spell or grammar check because I'm using my phone to compose....and the typing pad covers the entirescript being typed. Sorry for any problems. I'm assuming you replaced the fuel filter when you did the pump. You'll have to try to figure out if you are loosing fuel to the injectors or spark to the plugs to proceed. Its possible something is failing inside the distributor among other things. I'm also assuming you have checked the computer for trouble codes.
the first thing is check your fuel pressure for the right psi. some vehicles will not start if the pressure is off only by a couple psi. your particular van is epuipped with a injector module assembly under the upper intake manifold. commonly called a injector spider. those are notorious for leaking and will keep a vehicle from starting. also while your checking your spark how did you do it? if the spark was any color but blue it is too weak of a spark and the vehicle will not start with that. this could be worn plugs, wires or weak coil.
did you change the fuel filter? make sure all plug wires are on the right plug If the coil wire was crapped out the other wires may me too. look at the inside of the cap srpray some wd 40 in it and wipe it out good make sure top of rotor is clean too
Here's one thing you can do, carry little gas with you and when it cuts off, pour some gas down the intake manifold or throttle body. If it starts you probably have a fuel problem. If it doesn't start you most likely have a ignition problem. Using a test light check for Power going to your coil or coils. To rule out the ignition switch. But if I were to take a guess, ignition coil or coil wire, and if it has a distributor, ignition module pickup and rotor. Good luck.
Mike, it could be several different things, start with all your plug/ coil connections and alternator. fuel filter or injectors could be clogged, a vacuum leak in the fuel injection system, intake manifold, or vacuum hoses, in correct gap on the plugs. Lastly some faulty emission system components. I hope it is one of the easier fixes. Good Luck!
there are several things that can cause the problems you are having. the first is ignition timing. the rest are as follows: excessive play in distributor shaft, while checking that, check distributor cap, wires, etc., faulty or incorrectly gapped plugs, dirty air filter, faulty ignition coil, brakes binding, incorrect auto tranny fluid level, clogged fuel filter, slipping clutch, egr system not functioning properly, low or uneven cylinder compressions.,vacuum leaks on or around the intake manifold, or a fault with the fuel injection or engine management system
check for a vacuum leak, you could possibly hear a whistle under the hood,or you can spray starter fluid near the intake manifold where the suspect leak could be and if the engine accelerates it has an vacuum leak, try the simple things first, can also be a clogged PCV valve,it is in the valve cover somewhere and it will have a rather large rubber hose going to the intake manifold
