Hello, my car was running for a few minutes until it cut off. When I tried to restart it I heard a clicking sound in which one might say it could be the battery. However, I'm wondering if it could be the alternator? The power to the radio, lights, alarm, and even the lighter was still on, do you know what the problem could be?

Chances are its something electrical, but thats a big list.
You'll have to rule out a few things and check for spark and fuel pressure when it won't start.

It could be that the altonator is bad n is not charging ur battery fully so it will run for a while then it will shut off untill the battery recharges for a few minutes it happen to me on my 98 ford escort Zx2 my altonater went bad on me n I had to replace it

fuel pump needs replacing.

It sound more like a plugged catalytic converter. When you start the engine the pressure starts to build until the engine sufficates then after you let it set the pressure bleeds off and lets the engine restart.

leaky cylinder headgaskets!!!! car sits usually after just being driven coolant under pressure finds leak in gasket seeps into cylinder mind you it only takes a little dribble or two next morning you go out get in start up car misfiring,running lil ragged then begans to smooth out. stop @ store a few moments later come out restart car no miss runs fine till next morning sound fimilar have them checked

Taking off the negative battery cable will tell you if a alternator is bad most of the time but not all the time. If you can remove the alternator and take it to a automotive shop and get it tested you will get a true reading if it's bad usually they will do this for free. Hope this helps.

Sounds like a problem with the ignition module. If the car runs fine for a bit then quits,,,, and if you wait a few minutes it restarts,,,, replace the module.

Don't rule out fuel pump. Had a 95 do the same, ran great when cool in morning then when it got hot in afternoon, it would quit. Wait 15-20 minutes & go again, sometimes got me home, other times a few more miles until it cooled down again. Luckily I had access to a fuel pressure gauge. Cool in morning had 49 psi, when it quit, 2 psi. Wait 20 minutes, 49 psi again. If you can drive it around until it starts to act up then run into a repair shop for fuel pressure test it will confirm it. If not, they may need it all day to monitor the fuel pressure & confirm it is pump. If your a gambler, change it & fuel filter. One thing I did get was trouble codes indicating a lean mixture, due to starving for fuel. Have you cycled your key to retrieve any codes yet?

keep the fuel tank at least half full.....it may helps cool the pump
