Engine stumbles, no check engine light comes on

Check engine light does not have to come on unless the misfire monitor reaches a certain count.There it will pend a misfire code,and who know what code you get may just tell you P0300 random misfire,we know its misfiring .But we got the symptoms, The 2.2 is sensitive to water in the fuel system when you change the fuel filter were you able to get a sample of at least some.Where the ignition coil sits do you hear any arc at idle(in park) that can tell you you will need sparkplug wires. you can also use a spray bottle of water and spry it on the wire.see if that exposes any arc from the sparkplug wire. The fuel pressure on the 2.2 has to be 56-62 psi.This is the necessary pressure. Also the TPS can cause you to stumble intermittently and this is a common failure on the 2.2 engines

1997 4x suburban 7.4 misses and stumbles at 55 to 70 in especially going up grades, Changed fuel filter and still same problem. My mechanic is saying fuel pump is going???

Fuel pumps usually just bail. For short time prior to failing it may get louder or sound like its "changing gears". Use a pressure gage on the fuel system to be sure.

When was it tuned up last? Original plug wires? Change them. With plug wires its the age not the miles. Please use AC Delco wires, you'll thank me.

Your vehicles age almost guarantee's a vacuum leak under the under the hood, some where.
Check all vacuum lines coming off the intake to wherever they go.

Have a garage hook a scanner to the computer and check the oxygen sensors. If they are bad, it can cause the engine to run too lean, creating missing and stumbling.

Hope this helps.

Having missfires at 4 an 6

A P0304 and/or P0306 code means that the the car's computer has detected that one of the engine's cylinders is not firing properly. In this case it's cylinder #4 and/or #6.

Symptoms may include:
* the engine may be harder to start
* the engine may stumble / stumble, and/or hesitate
* other symptoms may also be present

Causes: A code may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
* Faulty spark plug or wire
* Faulty coil (pack)
* Faulty oxygen sensor(s)
* Faulty fuel injector
* Burned exhaust valve
* Faulty catalytic converter(s)
* Running out of fuel
* Poor compression
* Defective computer

Possible Solutions:
* If there are no symptoms, the simplest thing to do is to reset the code and see if it comes back.
* If there are symptoms such as the engine is stumbling or hesitating, check all wiring and connectors that lead to the cylinders (i.e. spark plugs). Depending on how long the ignition components have been in the car, it may be a good idea to replace them as part of your regular maintenance schedule. I would suggest spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor (if applicable). Otherwise, check the coils (a.k.a. coil packs). In some cases, the catalytic converter has gone bad. If you smell rotten eggs in the exhaust, your cat converter needs to be replaced. I've also heard in other cases the problems were faulty fuel injectors.

Hope helps.

My 1994 chevy s 10 blazer starts only in morning or after sitting for a long time(1 or 2 days) has new fule pump fule fliter fule presser is great have strong spark new plugs and wire relay is good motor...

I would definately check around the intake gaskets with any spray lubricant or cleaner.Do this while the engine is running. If it starts to stumble then concentrate the spray until you pinpoint the area of fault. This is all I have to offer without being there. Good luck,Dana

HI, you will need to replace the following.

1. replace the spark plugs and wires asap.
2. replace the fuel filter and pump as well.
3. replace the air filter.
4. Add a fuel system cleaner.(Techtron fuel injector cleaner is the best)

Replacing the above component's and adding a fuel system cleaner, will improve the performance of your vehicle dramatically.
