Question about 1998 Ford Contour

I checked transmissoin fluid it is full but when i put my car in drive or reverse it takes it around 3/4 secs before it catches or when getting on higjway it takes it a min. to shift on through it's cycle like it slips a little. it is an automatic

Well i had the same issues,it might be you need a transmission flush.

You have too much fluid in the transmission. Park on level ground. After a 15 min drive. Leave engine running. Set parking brake. Transmssion in neutral. Check tranny fluid. A cup or more over will cause this. Better to have less than too much. Drain at least a full 1 leter bottle. Go for drive check it again. As above.

I have a 1999 dodge ram 4x4 1500 it seems like it is slow at take off and sometimes it doesnt want to shift right out of first can you help


check your ****** fluid. if it's full at normal operating temp. you can try adding Lucas transmission fix. it costs like $12 at wal-mart. it helped my ram out alot. but make sure you have your truck at normal operating temp while checking the fluid. i had mine idle while i put it in. it is thick so i will have to cut the nipple and squeeze it into the dipstick tube slowly. after u put the entire bottle in, drive slowly and shift from low gear slowly up to drive, then in neutral for a sec, then stop and go into reverse for a a few seconds. that way the fluid will get to all the bands and recondition them and it helps lubricate the gears better. Lucas makes some very good stuff. i use all their products with faith. the stuff works that is if you bands aren't already shot. it also is supposed to eliminate leaks. hope this helps.

the belts are probably slipping. you may be able to get by with replacing the fluid, if that doesn't work you will need an overhaul to replace the seals.

Check engine light came on today honda accord v6 2003 at 97k miles. car makes a thump sound when put into reverse hot or cold. sometimes when i turn and accelerate i can reproduce this feeling moving...


Take your car to a mechanic or your local auto parts superstore and have them read/scan the codes for the reason for the check engine light. A good place to start.

When i put the car into drive or reverse and give gas it dont catch it rite away i have t wait about 5 secs for it to catch or otherwise the car will jump i think its the transaxel?


Have you checked the fluid level? perhaps the filter is plugged...if mileage is over 100,000 it may be time for a rebuild or replace

old transimstion fluid and you have sludge and probably all kinds of junk it it i suggest a complete cleanout fair shop will ask around 1000 for the job

Due to high cost for my Ford Ranger 50k milleage service, I would like to do self-service on my car such as change engine oil, oil filter and also the Auto Transmission Fluid (ATF). Would you please...


to change your oil you will need to get some running boards so your truck will be up on angle for the oil to drain. Get an oil catcher for the old oil to drain in and some oil catch clothes for incase of spill. find the drain plug under the oil pan and loosen slow till oil comes out and make sure the catch is there and dont bring the plug out fast do it slow, after all oil is drained then you must remove the oil filter, its located on the side bottom of the engine what you will need is a gripper ring that goes around the filter to loosen it then take it off and be careful they will be some oil still inside it. when putting on the new filter make sure the oil plug is screwed back in and you want to take some new oil and put around the black seal ring on the filter then only hand tighten it. fill your truck with the recamended oil. Now for the transmission fluid the procedure is the same for the oil except you probably dont need the truck up on the running boards any more. on the transmission they will be a drain plug and catch the old fluid please like the oil after its dry put plug back in and go under hood and get a small funnel and put in the check fluid hole and start filling with the recomended fluid and the suggested how much. or put two corts and stop and check with the check stick then just keep filling till it says full on the check stick level.

2000 Subaru Outback transmission problem


After a good deal of research and several shops suggesting a rebuild of the transmission, I decided to have the trans fluid and filters changed before doing anything. It was a tough call because it could have been a waste of $125. As soon as the spin off filter was removed you could see it was blocked. So the hydraulic pressure in the system was way down, still enough to engage reverse and enough to work all the shifts, but not enough to engage forward without a slight tap on the accelerator.

My Subaru has 240 000 km on it and I suppose the clutch pack rebuild wouldn't hurt, but as it is now it engages quickly and shifts up are noticeably smoother.

May not be the solution for every case, but it solved my situation.
