Need help 1992 ford thunderbird sc 3.8 supercharged getting code 215 primary coil failing checked coil ohms are to spec what do i check next

    is there a driveability issue?

You may have a wireing prob fords are bad for that but if it is running good i would not worrie about it

First thing u need to try is take all spark plug wires out and inspect if they are ok take ignition coil out check that for cracks , if there is no cracks check coil with multi meter for ohms primary and secondry ohms let me know if u have not checked that i can tell u how to do it if dont know

That coil is out of specs. I would think it needs replacing. Change it out and let us know if problem persists.

1994 Toyota Camry. I was driving on the hwy at 60mph when it just died. No fire. I had to replace the distributor a few months ago when the same thing happened. I checked the coil and found the primary...

It sounds like you know what you're doing. The two things I did not see covered are: do you have fire at the spark plugs: you checked the efi fuse but I see no indication that fuel to the cylinders has been verified. Have you pulled a spark plug to see if fuel is reaching the cylinders?

How to check ignition coil?

If you suspect a malfunctioning ignition coil, check the resistance of primary and secondary windings. Do this when the coil is hot, and again when it is cold. Also measure from the case to each connector. The primary windings should have a very low resistance, typically from a few tenths of an ohm to a few ohms. The secondary windings have a higher resistance, typically in the 10,000 to 13,000 ohm range. To get the actual figures for a specific coil, check the manufacturer's specs. But as a rule of thumb, primary windings range from a few tenths of an ohm to a few ohms, and secondary winding may be 10 ohms or more.

Then the coil is bad. Even if the specs were ok, which they r not, the cracked case means its junk.

how did you check coils you can ohm them and they all should read the same... another way if you do not have an expensive scanner you can scope the current draw of each coil....or simply go to junk yard ...rob a set of coils and change all... do yourself a favor change plugs to standard autolite plugs.. let me know

I have a code po354 on my 99 expedition, book says cylinder d misfire, which cylinder is this?

I just worked on 98 expedition 5.4l had code PO354. This code refer to an open primary coil winding, open wire, or bad PCM.
Check primary winding with ohm meter should be from 0.5 to 1.5 ohms and about 2.5 ohms with a hot engine. check wiring with a noid light, run the engine and shake the harness if light goes out repair harness you should have battery voltage with key on the computer controls the ground side.

Error code 224 I replaced one coil, the spark plugs and wires. No spark from 2 of the front coil connectors

No fault checking of almost anything, especially an ignition system, can be done without checking circuits and coils with a test lamp and a good ohm meter.

It is also a big help to have a circuit diagram - making it easier to know what should be happening.

Back to basics and systematic checking is the way forward...
