My 98 Chev Blazer starts fine, idles fine, but won't rev above 2500 RPM, then when I take my foot off the throttle it sounds like it wants to stall but doesn't, it smooths out and idles fine again. How can I retrieve DTC codes for this vehicle without a code reader, I have narrowed it down to possibly; a mass air flow sensor, a MAP sensor or a throttle control sensor.Any advice or answers you can give me would be greatly appreciated.Thank you Jim

SOURCE: car runs rough at idle

clean out ur throttle body, just follow the hose from the air filter to the throttle body. Need 2 people to do this. Don't remove the hose completely from the throttle body. Just enuff to be able to spray ur intake cleaner into the throttle body. Do this especially if its worse when the motor is hot, as this would confirm the problem.

had same problem i would check the Idel Air Valve and also check all of your vaccum hose lines makeing sure there are no cracks or splits in rubber connectors if there is repair immediatelt because over time they start to dammage the internal parts fo the engine and if youve replace tps mass air etc. sounds like a vaccum hose problem

SOURCE: CODE PO102 after Mass Air Flow Sensor replaced

Most faultcodes don't disappear automaticly, the have to be 'reset' manually after repairing. It sounds like the code didn't get erased after replacing the MAF. You could try to disconnect the battery for 10 minutes (disconnect and reconnect the negative (-) pole), which should erase the code.

Whenever the engine light still comes back on after that, there probably still is some (other) problem ...

Shaking during idle when warm.

try injector cleaner or newer fuel cleaners, try octane booster, sounds like a fuel delivery symptom but the temperature factor is a worry. I would guess injectors.

I have a 2002 durango 4.7. I have a hard time starting it hot or cold.when i get it started it idles fine for a few minuts and then rpm drop and wants to stall out,The truck runs great wile driving but...

First off, how new is your battery and how many miles on the D? Dodge vehicles are very sensitive to a failing battery. Have it load tested, and if is the least bit flaky, replace it.

After that, the TPS or throttle postion sensor is your next.

As far as the revving up and down above 3000 rpm goes, that is the PCM protecting the engine from over revving.

I would test for a leaking intake manifold gasket. WITH A WATER SPRAYER , and the engine running at operating temps and at idle, spray some water where the intake meets the cylinder head. If you hear a little SUCKING SOUND, and the engine smooths out temporarily, thats it Hope this helps

My 1987 turbo toyota supra will only rev up to 2500 rpm then cut out like a governer. when it drops to about 2000 rpm it will rev back up only to 2500 rpm. at an idle it runs rough

The throttle position sensor has an idle switch in it that tells the car's computer that the throttle is positioned at idle. If the idle switch sticks in the idle position, the computer will not allow the engine to rev more than 2500 rpm. In your case, I think the switch is stuck.

First, see if you can get the trouble codes to come up. Rig a jumper wire and jump between the "T" terminal and the "E1" terminal in the car's "Diagnostics" box. It is a small black box on the driver's side of the engine compartment near the battery. Open the lid and on the inside of the lid it has a map of the terminals.

Once you hook up the jumper wire, turn the ignition switch to on but do not start the car. If there are codes, the check engine light (orange) will blink the 2 digit code. It blinks the first digit, pauses, then blinks the second digit. The code for the throttle position sensor is code "41". That is, four blinks...pause...then one blink. If this code comes up, change the throttle position sensor. (If there are no codes, the check engine light will steadily blink once per second until you turn the key to off.) Don't forget to remove the jumper wire when you are finished.

1990 Ford Probe 2.2 automatic stalls in forward, reverse OK

Sounds like a bad IAC (idle air control valve/sensor) that controls your idle when going from throttle to idle. If bad your idle will act crazy and can cause stalls easily. Pretty sure that's it.
