Set timing belt light on a quantum 2.5 diesel

Simply line-up the two timing marks, mount the belt, and try starting the vehicle. If the vehicle fails to start or backfires, remove the belt and rotate the cam sprocket ONE FULL TURN, then re-mount the belt. MAKE SURE THAT YOU ARE NOT ONE TOOTH OFF ONCE YOU MOUNT THE TIMING BELT (THE MARKS SHOULD STILL MEET EXACTLY).

Missing and backfire.

Backfiring is usually associated with a lean condition. Is fuel pressure correct? Is this vehicle TBI and are both injectors working properly? If timing related it should spark rattle under load and the timing would be way out and not run/start well at idle

My 1986.5 nissan truck gets spark and gas but wont start

In order to run, your vehicle needs air, fuel, fire, timing and compression. So, if you have confirmed fuel and spark, take off the air cleaner to see if it is something simple like a really dirty air filter. You can use starting fluid in moderation, but be careful as your vehicle can backfire. I assume no responsibility with this post. If you use starting fluid and the vehicle starts and dies, you are not getting fuel. If you don't get any backfiring at all, you will want to test to ensure that you have a strong spark. You can take a spare plug, hook it to one of your wires and have a friend crank over the vehicle. Do not touch or hold the plug, just let it sit on the engine and look at the color. Blue is a strong spark, yellow is okay, if it is faint and orange, you may have a bad coil or cap and rotor or wires. You ought to run a compression test on all cylinders. If you have less than 100 psi on any cylinder, it is unlikely for the vehicle to run. If the vehicle has a lot of miles, it is possible that the timing has moved (worn out timing belt or chain) and your timing is off. You would typically have a change in compression due to this.

Timing is off, problem with timing chain, also check fluids in ******,plus also if you have a distributer in your vehicle,if it is cracked, moisture getting in and ruining the points,-that is if your vehicle has a distributer! This will make a vehicle run rough as well.
You can have new plugs put in,but if your spark plug wires are cracked or worn, this will also creat misfire and backfiring.

2002 suburban 2500 hesitation backfires intermintly

Check for error codes (DTCs) before going any further. Sounds like a fuel problem (fuel pump, injectors, etc.) which may have been affected by bad gas. Try a good fuel additive (cleaner) as well.

It sounds like the timing is off or a bad timing belt/chain.The dieseling effect is usually due to excessive carbon buildup inside the combustion chamber.Try a fuel injection service to see if that solves the problem of the pre-ignition.

Replace the battery it has a bad cell. When you got it started the vehicle charged it long enough so it would start for your mechanic. But it needs a battery.
