You should get this when you buy the rebuild kit. If you are brave enough to do this. I have taken on one automatic trans, in my life. I will never try it again.

Jumps out of 5th gear

syncro is a little round instead of square liped

1 too many grinders usually requires a rebuild of the trans or go to auto recyclers and get a new used trans

Hi, we have a fg25znt f35-50902 when driving it

sounds like the syncro gears are rounded off like some **** was switching from forward to reverse while still moving and vise versa the only solution is to eithor rebuild the trans or replace the trans the cost eithor way is menial cost for parts but the labour will kill you

My 1990 z, manual trans, grinds some gears especially at high rpm. is it possible it may need trans fluid or is it a syncro problem? how do i check the trans fluid and how do i fill it?

the earlier model transmissions used syncros that wear out very quickly. you could try adding more fluid. jack the car up, on the passenger side of the transmission there is a half inch ratchet receptacle there is also one on the bottom for draining. undo the one on the side of the tranny and fill it with fluid until it starts to leak out the side. (only way to know when its full) then put plug back in.

i had the same problem on my 91z and it turned out to be the synchros. about 1000 to completely rebuild the transmission with new 4 and 5 gear. probably cheaper to just do the synchros. hope it helps and good luck...

ps u may need a breaker bar to get that side plug out.

HOW TO open a getrag f23 transmission? I've got my f23 (m86 cobalt transmission out i have broken syncros) and i am trying to take the tranny itself a part i took all the bolts on the clutch housing and...

Look inside the bell. There should be a plate there. remove the plate and you will find a bolt under there. If you are not a regular trans person, I don't recommend fixing this yourself. That trans needs a special fixture that it sits on to take apart and put back together.

Standard transmissions are not that expensive when you get one from a wreck. (At least not here in upstate NY), If you make one mistake you will be pulling it back out, Even owning a trans shop for 25 years and rebuilding everything from Merc. to chevy's I rarely made any money rebuilding a standard and always recommend used except when there was a design flaw like the Ford exploders of the 90's when my repair fixed the flaw.

Good luck and hope it works for you.

May be a syncro ring going out. A tranney shop can rebuild the trans and change out the syncros or if you are good with mechanics you can get a book for your tranny and do it yourself. Most manual tranneys are not too hard to do.
