Metallic rattle during acceleration

Hi, i have a 1999 toyota corolla vvt-i ( manual transmission) and have noticed this nasty metallic rattle in the engine when accelerating, espercially when climbing a slope. occures mostly in 3rd and 4th gear. the mechanics say the timing is a bit too high and that i should not really let it worry me, but this car is not supposed to have any specific timing.

Try moving up 1 grade of fuel, if you are using 87, put in 89. See if this helps.

Toyota Corolla SW 1.4 VVT-i E12, 2004. Buzzing noise coming from the engine bay when accelerating on gear.

Hi there,

The sound you hear, is it a whining, popping, grinding, scraping or rattling sound?
If you drive a manual transmission vehicle and notice a grinding noise, it can indicate the clutch gear is no longer disengaging correctly.

98 toyota corolla rattling noise in the front end on bumps

The rattle (noticed at times under hard acceleration) is the cause of gas shock on the upper part of the engine loosing charge, in-turn causing the engine mounts extra stress and thus metal vibrating/rattling together.
The knocking (over bumps, etc. if you have noted that) is caused by worn bushings, most likely worn sway bar end links (you will see the links looking at the undercarriage, on both sides, they are a little steel "bars" with threaded ends on a 90 deg angle held by bushings e.g. example of front sway bar links ).
I noticed these noises coming on (at various times) at about ~140,000km or ~67,000mi and drove the car as it was until ~300,000km when i sold it (as is). Annoying noises.... yes... did I turn up the radio and carry on driving this car, not "fixing" anything (and I mean not a single $ spent on it aside from maintenance) and then sell the car... yes. The choice is yours.

I am hearing a noise in the engine of my 1999 toyota vista ardeo, what could possibly be the cause? Does the d4 engines carries valve lifters?

Hi there, the noise you might be referring to which sounds similar to a typewriter may be the cam gear for the VVT found at the intake. If it is louder than when you got this it may need check up. Changes in the O rings or may need replacement if you also notice a decrease in power at certain revs. Not all sounds however may not be the case. High pitch sounds may be because of timing belts or metal to metal contact which may need lubrication. As for valve lifters, the one that you have does not have any.

'03 Toyota Corolla 1,4 VVT-i 4ZZ engine idle rpm

Idle is factory set and cannot be adjusted, your best bet is checking for cracked hose pipework for air intake at idle,(not at problem under exceleration and driving) Any slight upset to the air /fuel ratio will be most prevelent at idle speeds.Check hoses where the meet metal flanges on manifold intakes and any sharp bends in ppipes.Good luck

Acceleration noise

Unless you are hearing an exhaust rattle of some sort, suggest higher octane fuel or check your timing.
